Wondering if a young person can choose supervised driving regardless of the diploma or professional title prepared? We tell you what you need to know.

The supervised driving is to be distinguished from the 2 other forms of accompanied driving: Advance Driving Learning (AAC) from 15 years of age, and supervised driving from the age of 18.

Supervised driving is an optional accompanied driving formula.

It addresses:

  • To student drivers, apprentice drivers and vocational trainees, aged 16 years of age or older, and preparing a professional diploma issued by the ministry of national education. For example, BEP or CAP of road driver.
  • To apprentice drivers and vocational trainees, aged 18 years of age or older, and preparing a professional title issued by the ministry of labor.

Some diplomas and professional titles are required to obtain a driver's license.

The conditions vary depending on whether you are preparing a diploma from the Ministry of National Education or a professional title from the Ministry of Labor.

You are preparing a professional diploma from the Ministry of National Education

You must meet the following 2 conditions:

  • Have obtained a certificate for access to supervised conduct of the head of institution certifying that you have validated the driving license examination (code + conduct) required by your training. You can download the order of 5 january 2023 containing the model certificate (annex 1).
  • Have participated, with the designated escort, in a prior educational appointment organized by the instructor responsible for driving education.

You are preparing a professional title from the Ministry of Labor

You must meet the following 2 conditions:

  • Have obtained a certificate for access to supervised driving the director of the training organization certifying that you have validated the tests for the driving license examination (code + conduct) required by your training. You can download the order of 5 january 2023 containing the model certificate 'annex 1).
  • Have participated, with the designated escort, in a prior educational appointment organized by the teacher responsible for teaching driving in the context of vocational training.

The prior educational appointment includes a driving phase in the vehicle of the training institution.

The escort is seated in the back of the vehicle.

The skills tracking booklet the student, apprentice or trainee serves as a reference.

The pedagogical appointment lasts:

Supervised driving concerns vehicles of the categories B, C1, C1E, C, EC, D1, D1E, D, and FROM driver's license.

Warning  

You can practice framed driving on a vehicle of the categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE driving license only during periods of training in the workplace or of alternation in company. For a vehicle of the category D, framed driving is practiced out of the presence of passengers.

It depends on the category of the vehicle.

You practice framed driving on a category B vehicle

Your companion can be a member of your family or a friend.

You can have one or more accompanying persons.

Each escort must complete the 3 conditions following:

  • Have the permit B since 5 years or more
  • Credit memo the agreement of his insurance for driving the vehicle(s) used during accompanied driving. One warranty extension may be necessary depending on your contract.
  • Not having had of cancelation or of invalidation of the permit in the previous 5 years.

You drive on a vehicle of categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE

The accompanying person must meet all of the following conditions:

  • To be one professional driver
  • Have the driver's license of the category of vehicle concerned since 5 years or more. The permit must be valid.
  • Have the qualification card of driver valid of the category of the vehicle concerned
  • Credit memo the agreement of his insurance for driving the vehicle(s) used during accompanied driving. One warranty extension may be necessary depending on your contract.
  • Not having had of cancelation or of invalidation of the permit in the previous 5 years.

Before the beginning of the supervised driving, the guide, subscriber of the insurance contract, must check if his insurance contract allows it.

If not, he must ask prior written consent of its insurer on the extended warranty necessary for driving the vehicle(s) to be used.

He must attach to his application the certificate for access to supervised driving. The certificate must be signed by the student driver, apprentice or trainee, and by the accompanying person(s). Participation in 1 educational appointment

You must participate in at least 1 educational appointment with the lead instructor or teacher responsible for driving instruction, and at least one coach.

The educational appointment includes a driving phase to measure progress and provide the necessary advice.

At least one companion must be present.

The supervised driving phase can only start with the prior written agreement of the insurer on the warranty extension.

Rules of conduct

You must comply with the following rules:

  • Driving in the presence of your companion. It must be sitting at the front the vehicle, next to you (or nearest to you, for a category D vehicle without another front seat).
  • Drive in France. Movement abroad is prohibited.
  • Driving on the road and motorway network.
  • Driving a light vehicle (PTAC: titleContent not more than 3,5 tons) or of the heavy group (PTAC: titleContent greater than 3.5 tons), depending on the license category prepared.
  • Respect specific speed limitations.

You must not not exceed maximum speeds following:

  • 110 km/h on sections of motorways where the speed is limited to 130 km/h
  • 100 km/h on other sections of motorways
  • 100 km/h on 2-carriageway roads separated by a central median
  • 80 km/h on other roads
  • 50 km/h in agglomeration.

The vehicle used, with manual or automatic gearbox, can be coupled to a trailer.

However, the combination of the vehicle and the trailer must correspond to the category of driving license for which the student, apprentice or trainee has validated the tests (code + conduct).

Category B vehicle

To identify the vehicle as a learning vehicle, you must place a distinctive sign sticker or magnetized to the left rear (and on the trailer if necessary).

Vehicle of categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE

To identify the vehicle as a learning vehicle, you must place, front and back of the vehicle, panels or registrations Dimension 100 × 30 centimeters.

The following documents must be presented in the event of a roadside inspection by the police:

  • Certificate of Registration the vehicle, and if necessary of the trailer
  • Attestation for access to supervised driving signed by the head of establishment or the director of the training organization

You have obtained a professional designation from the Ministry of Labor

The driving license shall be issued if the age conditions the following are completed:

  • 18 years for category C1, C1E, C or CE in the context of driver training transport of goods
  • 21 years for categories D1 or D1E in the context of driver training passenger transport (18 years if the person concerned is driving in France)
  • 21 years for categories D or DE in the context of driver training passenger transport (20 years if the person concerned is driving in France, 18 years if the person concerned is driving in France and provided that he/she is traveling without a passenger or performing regular services whose route does not exceed 50 km).

You have obtained a professional diploma issued by the Ministry of National Education

The driving license shall be issued if the age conditions the following are completed:

  • 17 years for category B subject to having obtained one of the following diplomas: CAP Operator / Service Operator - Customer relationship and delivery, CAP Driver delivery of goods, CAP road driver of goods, CAP mover on light commercial vehicle, CAP reception agent in bus and coach, Professional Bachelor of Road Transport of goods driver
  • 18 years for the BE category provided you have obtained the CAP light commercial vehicle mover
  • 18 years for category C subject to having obtained the CAP Conductor delivery of goods
  • 18 years for categories C and CE subject to having obtained the professional bachelor's degree in road haulage driver or the CAP road haulage driver
  • 21 years for category D or DE provided you have obtained the CAP Driver Reception Officer in Bus and Coach (20 years if the person concerned is driving in France, 18 years if the person concerned is driving in France and provided that he/she is traveling without a passenger or performing regular services whose route does not exceed 50 km).

You are in the process of obtaining a professional diploma from the Ministry of National Education

The driving license shall be issued if the age conditions the following are completed:

  • 17 years for the category B in the context of the professional bachelor's degree in road haulage driver subject to submitting a attestation signed by the head of the establishment or the head of the training organization
  • 18 years for the Category C in the context of training at the professional bachelor's degree driver road transport goods subject to submitting a attestation signed by the head of the establishment or the head of the training organization.

In case of failure upon obtaining a professional diploma issued by the ministry of national education, you can obtain a driver's license if the 3 conditions the following are completed:

  • Have reached the age of 17 years for category B of the driving license and 18 yearss for other categories
  • Credit memo passed the testss of the driving license corresponding to the category prepared
  • Introduce yourself to all the diploma tests.

Shipment of driver's license

The driver's license (driving license) is shipped by letter followed.

This type of shipment traceable, with mailbox delivery, is different from regular mail.
