Application for a driving license: what proof of residence?

To apply for a driver's license, you must prove your residence in France.

You can use Justif' Address or provide a proof of domicile.

Justif' Address is a device which enables a automatic address verification that you entered during an online process. The use of Justif' Address is free. You can use Justif' Address if you meet the following conditions:

  • Your domicile is in Metropolitan France or in the DROM.
  • You have a subscription or energy bill to your birth name.
  • You use one of the following energy suppliers: EDF (SEI in DROMs), Energy of which Gas Tariff Regulated, Total Direct Energy.

You have proof of residence in your name

You must provide one of the following documents (only one proof of domicile is required):

  • Invoice less than 6 months old for water, electricity, gas, or landline or mobile phone. A photocopy of an electronic invoice is accepted.
  • Notice of taxation or non-taxation
  • Rent receipt. A rent receipt is accepted if it is not handwritten and is not issued by an individual.
You live with a relative: parent, friend...

You must provide the following 3 documents:

  • Attestation on honor from the person hosting you, dated and signed by both of you
  • Copy of the ID of the person hosting you
  • Proof of domicile in his name (bill of less than 6 months of water, electricity, gas or telephone, notice of taxation or non-taxation, receipt of rent not handwritten).
You are homeless or homeless (homeless)

You must provide the following 2 documents:

  • Proof of address for service with an organization approved by the prefect (your city council can provide you with a list) or a special circulation booklet

You live on a pleasure boat

You must provide the following 2 documents:

  • Certificate of less than 6 months established by the harbor master of a site property or permanent lease
  • Proof of less than 6 months in his name indicating the same address (invoice of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile telephone, tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt).
Minor

You must provide the following:

  • Acknowledgement of accommodation of one of the parents, dated and signed
  • Copy of the parent's ID that signed the attestation
  • Proof of residence of the same parent.
