Driver's license application: what proof of residence is accepted?

Anyone requesting a registration a class of driving license, the delivery or the renewal of a driver's license, shall justify his domicile.

As these steps are done online on the site de France Titres - ANTS, the proof of domicile shall be dematerialized. You can use the device Justif' Address if you are eligible (the use of Justif'Adresse is integrated into the online process) or provide proof in digital format. However, you must be able to present the original of each of the supporting documents provided.

The device Justif' Address, free and optional, allows to automatically check the address that you enter during the online process. To be eligible for Justif'Adresse, your home must be located in Metropolitan France or in a DROM, you must have a subscription or an energy bill in your birth name, and use as an energy supplier EDF (SEI in the DROM), or Engie including Gaz Tarif Réglementé, or Total Direct Énergies.

Accepted proof of address varies depending on your situation.

You have a personal mailing address

The proof of domicile is established with the device Justif' Address if you are eligible, or with one of the documents following:

  • Notice of taxation or non-taxation
  • Unhandwritten rent receipt
  • Invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of landline or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water
  • Title of ownership 
  • Statement from the Family Allowance Fund mentioning housing subsidies.

You are a minor or dependent child of full age and do not have proof of your personal postal address

The proof of domicile is established with the 2 documents following:

  • Proof of identity of the parent
  • Proof of domicile of the same parent. The following documents are accepted: tax or non-tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt, invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water, title deed, statement of the family allowance fund mentioning housing assistance.

You are staying with a relative: parent, friend…

The proof of domicile is established with the 3 documents following:

  • Certification on honor the hosting provider certifying the accommodation, dated and signed by the hosting provider and the hosting provider
  • Proof of identity of the host
  • Proof of address of the host in his name. The following documents are accepted: tax or non-tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt, invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water, title deed, statement of the family allowance fund mentioning housing assistance.

You are homeless or homeless

The proof of domicile is established with one of the 2 documents following:

  • Certificate of election of domicile issued by a CSF: titleContent, one ICAS: titleContent or by an approved body
  • Invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of landline or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water

You are staying in a hotel or camping

The proof of domicile is established with the 2 documents following:

  • Certification of the hotel or campsite manager or manager
  • Choice:
    • Official document of less than 6 months in your name mentioning the same address as the attestation of the manager or director of the hotel or campsite
    • Proof of less than 6 months in the name of the manager or director, indicating the same address. The following documents are accepted: tax or non-tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt, invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water, title deed, statement of the family allowance fund mentioning housing assistance.

You live on a boat

The proof of domicile is established with the device Justif' Address if you are eligible, or with one of the documents following:

  • Proof of less than 6 months in your name. The following documents are accepted: tax or non-tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt, invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water, title deed, statement of the family allowance fund mentioning housing assistance.
  • Certificate of less than 6 months issued by the harbor master of the port to which you belong, or if you are a seaman or boatman, certificate of domicile issued by the company that employs you
  • Insurance receipt for the boat.

You're being held in a penitentiary

The proof of domicile is established with one of the documents following:

  • Proof of less than 6 months in your name. The following documents are accepted: tax or non-tax notice, non-handwritten rent receipt, invoice (or certificate of contract holder downloadable from the customer area) of less than 6 months of fixed or mobile phone, gas, electricity or water, title deed, statement of the family allowance fund mentioning housing assistance.
  • Document in your name indicating the address of the prison.
