Step-by-step approach

You can apply for renewal the year preceding the expiry date your current passport.

FYI  

In case of change in your marital status (for example, change of first name), you must make a request to change your passport. The request must be made in a 3 months delay from the update of your birth certificate.

The place of the request does not depend on your domicile. You can go to any town hall, provided that it is equipped with a recording station.

You must personally pick it up at the place of deposit of the file and sign it on the spot.

The passport is valid 10 years.

The old passport must be returned. If it included a visa, it may be retained for the period of validity of that visa.

In the European Union, Norway, the United Kingdom or Switzerland

You can request that the passport be sent to you by post. But you have to be registered at register of foreigners from the same country, have an email address and be able to transmit files via the internet.

If you request the sending by post, you must provide at the time of filing the file, in addition to the necessary supporting documents, a postage-paid envelope purchased from the authorized service provider in the country. Inquiries should be made with the consulate regarding the authorized service provider, the size of the envelope to be provided and the postage required.

If you do not indicate anything at the time of filing, you will have to withdraw the passport instead of filing the file.

If you prefer to collect it from a authorized honorary consul, this must be indicated at the counter when the application is submitted.

At the time of filing, you requested to receive the passport by mail

At the time of filing the file, if you have requested to receive the passport by mail, you will receive an email notification of dispatch containing a secret code.
