Your passport was stolen and you want a new one? We present you step by step the process to follow. It differs depending on whether the flight took place in France or abroad.

You have to go to a police station or a gendarmerie to report the theft.

Pre-application for passport renewal

You must purchase a tax stamp in the amount of €86 (€43 in Guyana).

  • 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
  • 1 proof of address from less than 1 year
  • Declaration of theft
  • Tax stamp (unless you have already purchased it during pre-application)
  • If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
You have an expired ID card

The documents to be provided vary depending on the expiry date of your identity card:

Expiry date: less than 5 years

You must submit the following documents:

  • Your identity card
  • 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
  • 1 proof of address from less than 1 year
  • Declaration of theft
  • Tax stamp (unless you have already purchased it during pre-application)
  • If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).

To use a usage name that is not yet on an identity document, other documents must be provided depending on the nature of that second name: name of spouse or name of other parent.

Track the status of a passport application

If you provided a mobile phone number when you applied, you will receive an SMS when the passport is available.

The passport must be withdrawn in the 3 months. After this period, the passport is destroyed.

You must personally withdraw it at the place of filing and sign it on the spot.

The passport is valid 10 years.

You can request that the passport be sent to you by mail. But you have to be registered at register of foreigners from the same country, have an email address and be able to transmit files via the internet.

If you request the sending by post, you must provide at the time of filing the file, in addition to the necessary supporting documents, a postage-paid envelope purchased from the authorized service provider in the country. Inquiries must be made with the consulate to determine the authorized service provider, the size of the envelope to be provided and the postage required.

If you do not indicate anything at the time of filing, you will have to withdraw the passport instead of filing the file.

If you prefer to withdraw it from a authorized honorary consulHowever, this must be indicated at the counter when the file is submitted.
