Application for birth certificate: full copy or extract (birth in France) - Free service

Allows to ask the municipality of the place of birth a birth certificate of a person of french nationality born in metropolitan France or in one of the overseas departments or territories.

But watch outSome municipalities do not offer this online service. In this case, you can make your request by mail or by going on site.

3 different documents can be issued:

  • Either one full copy (i.e. reproduction of the entire birth certificate)
  • Either one extract with parentage
  • Either one extract without parentage.

You must log in with FranceConnect.

The approach is free.

The document is then sent by post in a few days.

The delay may vary depending on the processing of the request by the services of the town hall and the time of delivery of the mail.

Warning  

If the person concerned by the act is born in an independent state (for example, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), you must apply for a birth certificate via the online service dedicated to people born abroad.
