You are of French nationality, you have lost your passport and you want a new one? We present you step by step the process to follow. It differs depending on whether the loss occurred in France or abroad.

If you do not wish to redo your passport immediately, you must declare the loss to the police or gendarmerie authorities. If the loss occurred abroad, you must contact the local police authorities and the French embassy or consulate.
In France
Step-by-step approach
The location of the request does not depend on your domicile. You can go to any town hall, provided that it is equipped with a recording station.

You must purchase a tax stamp in the amount of €86 (€43 in Guyana).
The purchase of the stamp differs depending on whether a pre-request is made or not:

You do not make a pre-application
You have 2 possibilities : either buy the stamp on the internet, or buy it in a tobacco office.

You can buy a tax stamp at a tobacco office if it is equipped with the application Authorized point of sale.

You have a valid identity card
You must submit the following documents:
- Your identity card
- 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
- 1 proof of address from less than 1 year
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp (unless you have already purchased it during pre-application)
- If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
You have an expired ID card
The situation varies depending on the expiry date of your identity card:
Expiry date: less than 5 years
You must submit the following documents:
- Your identity card
- 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
- 1 proof of address from less than 1 year
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp (unless you have already purchased it during pre-application)
- If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
Expiry date: more than 5 years
You must submit the following documents:
- 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
- 1 proof of address from less than 1 year
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp (unless you have already purchased it during pre-application)
- If you don't have an identity card or if it's older, check if the civil status of the place of birth is dematerialized. If this is not the case, a birth certificate (full copy or extract with filiation) from less than 3 months.
- Proof of French nationality if your nationality does not appear from your birth certificate
- If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
You don't have an ID card
You must submit the following documents:

To use a usage name that is not yet on an identity document, other documents must be provided depending on the nature of that second name: name of spouse or name of other parent.

The passport is not manufactured on site and therefore cannot be issued immediately.
The manufacturing time depends on the location and period of the request. It takes several weeks and, as the summer holidays approach, delays can extend.

Track the status of a passport application
If you provided a mobile phone number when you applied, you will receive an SMS when the passport is available.
The passport must be withdrawn in the 3 months. After this period, the passport is destroyed.
You must personally withdraw it at the place of deposit of the file and sign it on the spot.
The passport is valid 10 years.
Abroad
Step-by-step approach
You have to move at the consulate or embassy. The service may require that the file be filed only by appointment. Find out more on the internet or by phone.

The method of withdrawal varies depending on the country from which the passport renewal application is made:

In the European Union, Norway, the United Kingdom or Switzerland
You can request that the passport be sent to you by mail. But you have to be registered at register of foreigners from the same country, have an email address and be able to transmit files via the internet.
If you request the sending by post, you must provide at the time of filing the file, in addition to the necessary supporting documents, a postage-paid envelope purchased from the authorized service provider in the country. Inquiries must be made with the consulate to determine the authorized service provider, the size of the envelope to be provided and the postage required.
If you do not indicate anything at the time of filing, you will have to withdraw the passport instead of filing the file.
If you prefer to withdraw it from a authorized honorary consulHowever, this must be indicated at the counter when the file is submitted.
Elsewhere in the world
In some countries, you can request that the passport be sent to you by post. But you have to be registered at register of foreigners from the same country, have an email address and be able to transmit files via the internet.

At the time of filing the file, if you have requested to receive the passport by mail, you receive a sending notification email in which a secret code is included.
As soon as you receive your passport, you must acknowledge receipt using this online service:
