If you are official, you can be placed in different administrative positions during your career: activity, secondment, availability, parental leave.

Activity
Activity is the position in which you perform the duties of one of the jobs corresponding to your grade.
The activity position is the position you are in by default if you do not request to be placed in another position.
In an active position, you are entitled to different holidays:
- Annual leave
- Leave of absence illness, long illness, long-lasting
- Leave of absence maternity or of adoption
- Birth leave or adoption of 3 days
- Paternity and childcare leave
- Vocational Training Leave
- Leave for Validation of Experience
- Competency Check Leave
- Leave for Union Training
- Family solidarity leave
- Leave of representation
- Parental Presence Leave
- Caregiver Leave
- Training leave for youth managers and facilitators
- Leave for military training or in operational reserve, civil security or health.

Detachment
The detachment is the position in which you perform your duties outside your body or framework of jobs of origin.
Detachment is a form of mobility.
He is pronounced at your request, except in the case of transfer of the activity you carry out to a private body (company, association) or to a Epic: titleContent.
You may be seconded to another body or job in your home public service or to another public service or outside the public service.
The posts accessible by secondment are listed by a text specific to each public service (State, territorial, hospital).
During your detachment, you retain your rights to advancement in your original body or employment setting.
And if you're seconded to the public service, you also have advancement rights in your body or hospitality job setting.
You are entitled to the same leave as an active civil servant:

Availability
The availability is the position in which you cease temporarily your functions.
Reasons for Availability
Lay-off is pronounced most often, at your request, in particular for any of the following reasons:
- Personal Suitability
- Create or resume a company
- Raising a child under 12
- Giving care to a dependent child, to her spouse or partner of Civil partnerships: titleContent or to one ascending with a disability requiring the presence of a third party or as a result of an accident or serious illness
- Follow your spouse or partner from Civil partnerships: titleContent forced to move for professional reasons
- Traveling overseas or abroad for the adoption of one or more children
- Exercise a local elected mandate.
You can also be automatically placed on standby, especially for health reasons when you have exhausted your sick leave entitlements.
Status of staff member on standby
During an availability, you stay a civil servant and your vocation is to return to a job corresponding to your rank at the end of your availability.
During an availability, you are more remunerated by your employer administration and therefore no longer contribute to your pension fund (SRE: titleContent if you are a state official, CNRACL: titleContent if you are a territorial or hospital official).
On the other hand, in addition to being available to set up or take over a company, you can engage in a gainful, salaried or self-employed professional activity, full-time or part-time during an availability granted for personal convenience or to follow your Civil partnership or partner or to provide care to a relative.
During an availability, you have more entitled to leave from which a serving official may benefit.
You no longer enjoy your rights to advancement of step and grade.
However, since September 7, 2018, when you are engaged in a professional activity during your availability, you can keep, subject to conditions, your rights to advancement step and grade for a maximum of 5 years.
And since August 8, 2019, when you are available to raise a child under 12 years, you also keep your rights to advancement step and grade for a maximum of 5 years.
When you work while on standby, you contribute to the pension fund for which you work.
Parental Leave
The parental leave is the position in which you temporarily stop working to raise a child.
You are placed on parental leave at your request.
Parental leave can be granted for a duration varies according to the number of children born or adopted.

During parental leave, you are no longer paid by your employer's administration but you can collect the shared child-rearing benefit (PreParE) if you meet the conditions to benefit from it.
You keep your promotion rights up to a maximum of 5 years for your entire career.
The time spent on parental leave is taken into account for the calculation of your number of quarters of pension insurance up to a maximum of 3 years per child born or adopted after 2003.
During parental leave, you are no longer entitled to leave from which an active civil servant may benefit.
However, if a new birth or adoption occurs while you are on parental leave, you can benefit from maternity or adoption leave. Your parental leave ends automatically on the date you take your maternity or adoption leave.
FYI
If you have parental leave and availability to raise a child under the age of 12 during your career, you retain your promotion rights up to a maximum of 5 years.
If you are contractor :
- You are in service when you perform the duties of your job and you are entitled to the same leave as a public servant in an active position.
- You cannot not be detached.
- You cannot not neither be placed on standby, but you can benefit from leave without pay for the same reasons the reasons why an official may be available.
- You can benefit from the parental leave.
