Personal Training Account (CPF)
Know your rights
What is CPF?
It's an account with a sum of money. This money allows you to take training throughout your life.
How do I know the amount of my CPF?
You have to go to www.moncompteformation.gouv.fr.
To create an account, your social security number is enough.
You can consult your rights to training. They are presented in the form of a sum in euros.
How is my CPF powered?
As soon as you work at least part-time, your CPF is powered by 500 € per year. With a total limit of 5000 €.
If you are less than half-time, this amount is proportional to your working time.
For example, if you work 1/5th of the time, that is to say 7 hours a week, your account is credited with 100 € per year.
How do I get my CPF money back?
This money can only be used for training.
It is up to you to take the initiative to use it, following the procedure on the My Training Account website.
Does my CPF allow me to take any training?
No. Training must meet certain objectives.
For example, it could be:
- Certifying training, that is to say, which allows you to obtain a recognized professional certification
- Training to validate the experience gained
- A skills assessment
- Preparation for certain driving licenses
- Training dedicated to the creation or takeover of companies
Training courses are available on the My Training Account website.
Do I need to notify my employer of my training request?
No, if the training takes place outside working hours.
But if it is scheduled during working time, you must ask your employer for an absence authorization. This request must be made at least 60 days before the start of the training, or even 120 days if the training lasts more than 6 months.
Can my employer refuse my training request?
You do not need his agreement for a training outside working time (for example evening or RTT).
But if the requested training takes place during working time, then your employer can refuse your request.
Can I do more expensive training than the amount available on my CPF?
Yes.
If the training you want costs more than the amount available on your CPF, you can look for a financial supplement.
For example, ask your employer or organizations such as the Agefiph or the regional council.
Can I use my CPF if I am unemployed?
Yes.
Your CPF follows you throughout your life. You retain your rights, even if you change employers or lose your job.
Can I give the amount of my CPF to a colleague or family member?
No.
This amount of money cannot be donated to a third party.

Example :
If you worked in 2025, the training rights will appear on your account by June 15, 2026.
The rights are vested even if you change employers or lose your job.
FYI
If you have never worked before and are enrolled in France Travail (formerly Job center), your CPF is open, credited at zero. It can therefore be funded, in particular by France Travail, to finance training.
CPF power supply
If you are at full time, or at least part time, your account is funded up to €500 by year of work until €5,000 maximum.
FYI
The amount written on your CPF is not subject to income tax.
If your working time has been less than half of the legal or conventional working time, your account will be funded proportionally the working time worked.
When the calculation of your entitlements results in an amount in euros with decimal places, this amount is rounded to the second decimal place, to the next euro cent.
Example :
Your company opts for the annual legal working time of 1,607 hours.
You work 700 hours a year, less than half a year.
Thus, your rights will be calculated in proportion to the time actually worked. Instead of €500 per year, you will have €217.80.

- Thank you!
On the other hand, I lose all the money from my CPF
- Are you sure? (interrogative emoticon)
- Yes... the CPF amount is reset when you change jobs
(Misconception)
« If I change jobs, I lose my CPF money. »
(Answer)
FALSE
It's a misconception!
You keep your personal training account – known as CPF – throughout your working life.
The CPF is used to fund training.
Except in special cases, it is fed every year from 500 € if you work at least part-time. Otherwise, this amount is proportional to your working time.
This total cannot exceed 5000 €. In addition, your company or certain organizations, such as France Travail (formerly Job center), can add money.
The CPF is attached to your person, not to your status or employment contract.
Thus, the amount accumulated on your CPF does not disappear when your professional situation changes.
To better understand, let's take the example of an employee who is evolving.
If he changes companies, he arrives at his new employer with the same amount of money on his CPF as when he left his former job.
If he becomes a jobseeker, his CPF is no longer funded, but the amount of money he had remains available for training.
And this regardless of the reason for the termination of the employment contract: resignation, dismissal, or.... contractual termination
What if he becomes a civil servant or a public official? He retains on his CPF the rights acquired during his previous jobs in the private sector.
Once in the civil service, a second CPF is opened to him: it is fed every year, in hours - and not in euros.
If he wishes to use the rights he had previously acquired in euros, he can convert them into hours in order to be able to use them in accordance with the rules of the civil service.
In all cases, if the employee asserts all his pension rights, his CPF is in principle closed.
Finally know two things:
Money from your CPF cannot be placed in a bank or transferred to a relative
And you should never give your identity and social security number to a suspicious organization.
(Key points)
- You keep the money of your CPF throughout your professional life
- This money is only used to finance your future training
You keep it even if:
- You change employer
- You register for France Travail (formerly Job center)
- You enter the public service
The amount of money on your CPF remains available.
Your CPF can be used at any time on the platform My training account :
- From the foreigner for remote training
- In France.
Warning
The money from your CPF cannot finance training for foreigner organizations.
You can talk about your plan to use the CPF to a professional development advisor (CEP). He can help you for free in your efforts.
