The online approach to pre-requesting Civil partnerships is evolving

A Civil partnership can be recorded:

• in town hall;
• with a notary;
• in an embassy or consulate, for people living abroad.

For Civil partnerships registered in the town hall, it is possible in some municipalities to file a pre-application online. This allows you to gather all the necessary information and documents in advance, and thus save time on the day of registration of your Civil partnership.

The online pre-application process for Civil partnerships evolved on June 9 to make it clearer and easier to complete. The new version allows you to:

• from download a Civil partnerships memo at the end of the process (this document includes the various tasks you must perform to register your Civil partnership, as well as a personalized list of documents that you must present to the town hall to enter into a civil partnership);
• to be guided throughout the process, to, among other things, properly establish your Civil partnership agreement and your attestations on the honor of non-kinship, non-alliance and common residence.

What are the steps in pre-applying for Civil partnerships?

As part of a pre-application for Civil partnerships, you must:

• sign in to the online service for pre-application of Civil partnerships, via your account Public Service or via FranceConnect;
• fill in the form (information is requested on the 2 partners of the Civil partnership);
• add your birth certificate and/or that of your partner, if necessary (you do not have to provide a birth certificate if your municipality of Civil partnerships can access your civil status data from your birth town hall) ;
• send the pre-application;
• download and print the Civil partnership declaration form (and the model convention for a civil solidarity pact, if you have chosen to use this form);
• retrieve the list of other supporting documents that may be necessary for your Civil partnership file.

Following the filing of your pre-application, if your file is complete the City Council contacts you to set the date of registration of your Civil partnership.

If your file is not complete, the town hall tells you the documents you still need to provide. Once your file is complete, the date of registration of your Civil partnership can be set.

On the day of registration of your Civil partnership, you must bring:

• a valid piece of identification;
• your Civil partnership agreement, signed by you and your partner;
• originals of your supporting documents (if necessary).
