What is the upgrading for private supplementary pensions?

As an employee in the private sector, you receive a supplementary pension during your retirement that is in addition to your basic pension paid by the Social Security. In the absence of an agreement between the representatives of the employers' and trade union organizations that make up the Agirc-Arrco board of directors, this supplementary retirement pension will not be increased to 1er November 2025.

If you are employed in the private sector, you must contribute to the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension plan. These contributions are then converted into pension points; and when you retire, these points are converted into a pension. Your Agirc-Arrco pension is then added to your basic retirement pension paid by the Social Security Retirement Insurance.

Supplementary retirement pensions are generally subject to an annual revaluation. At their meeting on 17 October 2025, the representatives of the trade unions and employers' organizations making up the Agirc-Arrco board of directors were unable to reach an agreement on the level of revaluation of these pensions. Supplementary pensions for employees in the private sector will therefore not be increased to 1er November 2025.

In addition, the purchase value of the Agirc-Arrco point will remain unchanged at 1er January 2026. This value is set each year and determines the amount of contribution required to obtain an additional Agirc-Arrco pension point.

A national inter-professional agreement of 5 October 2023 sets out the rules governing the Agirc-Arrco scheme for the period 2024-2026. According to this text, the level of Agirc-Arrco pensions must follow the evolution of consumer prices (excluding tobacco) estimated by INSEE for the current year, reduced by 0.4 points; the Board of Directors of Agirc-Arrco then has a margin of maneuver allowing it to adjust the expected evolution within the limit of an increase or a decrease of up to 0.4 points.

For 2025, INSEE forecasts a price increase (excluding tobacco) of 1%; the level of increase that served as a basis for the discussion between the members of the Agirc-Arrco board of directors was therefore 0.6% (an increase of 1%, minus 0.4 points). Taking into account the room for maneuver of the Agirc-Arrco Board of Directors, the increase in the level of supplementary pensions could be between 0.2% and 1%.

Reminder

Agirc-Arrco supplementary retirement pensions were increased by 1.6% on 1er November 2024, and 4.9% on 1er November 2023.
