What to do in case of theft or loss of a weapon?

In case of loss or theft of a weapon, weapon component or ammunition of the categories A, B or C, you must declare it immediately at a police station or gendarmerie brigade.
Your statement should detail the circumstances of loss or theft. You must also specify the brand, the template, the caliber, the serial number and the category the weapon, weapon component or ammunition concerned.
Failure to report loss or theft is punishable by a fine from €750 maximum.
The police commissioner or the gendarmerie brigade commander will give you a receipt for declaration of loss or theft.
If you are SIA account holder, you must enter the theft or loss of the weapon in the AIS: titleContent producing a copy of the receipt.
The police station or gendarmerie then forwards your declaration to the prefecture which granted you the authorization or issued the declaration receipt.
Please note
If the weapon is listed on your European Firearms Card (EFC)), you must edit a new map via your SIA account. If you do not have an SIA account, you must return or have your card updated in a one month delay following the theft or loss of the weapon.
