Pregnant women: 100% coverage (health insurance)

Are you expecting a child? Be aware that mandatory medical examinations as part of the follow-up of your pregnancy are covered at 100% the Health Insurance rate. This includes examinations from the beginning of pregnancy until 12 days after delivery. You can also benefit, under certain conditions, from a non-medicalized temporary accommodation benefit (we then speak ofhospital hotel). We present you the regulations to know.

FYI  

You must declare your pregnancy before the end of the 3rde month of pregnancy for:

  • Benefit as soon as possible from coverage by the Health Insurance
  • Also allow for the payment of futures family benefits.

Consultations related to pregnancy

The Health Insurance covers 100% with advance waiver of charges (third-party payer) the mandatory medical examinations as part of your pregnancy follow-up.

Examples:

  • Mandatory prenatal consultations (one before the end of the 3e month of pregnancy, then one per month from the 4the month of pregnancy)
  • Birth and parenting preparation sessions, including early prenatal examination
  • Complementary biological examinations (including those of the future father).

The 2 first ultrasound scans carried out before the end of 5e months of pregnancy are taken care of at 70%.

FYI  

In case of pathological pregnancy or fetal pathology (fetal malformations, infectious or genetic background...),) other ultrasounds may be prescribed and managed.

Dentist

You can benefit, from 4e months of pregnancy, of a oral prevention exam.

This review is fully supported by the Health Insurance, without advance charge.

Upon receipt of your declaration of pregnancy, your health insurance fund sends you an invitation letter, accompanied by the printed form to cover your oral examination. You then make an appointment with your dentist. You must go there with your support print and your Vital Card.

Other consultations

The other consultations that those related to pregnancy and medical expenses are reimbursed to usual rates.

General scenario

All your reimbursable medical expenses (pharmaceuticals, analyses, laboratory tests, hospitalization) are taken care of at 100%, without advance payment of costs (third-party payer).

This coverage applies to all your expenses whether or not related to your pregnancy.

The 3e ultrasound benefits from support to 100%.

In case of pathological pregnancy or fetal pathology (fetal malformations, infectious or genetic context...),) other ultrasounds may be prescribed and managed under the same conditions.

Please note

These supports to 100% are based on and within the limits of the Health Insurance rates.

Excess fees are not covered by the Health Insurance. They may be supported by your complementary health if the contract so provides. You can inquire with your complementary health.

You also benefit from the advance fee waiver (third-party payer) on the part covered by the Social Security (excluding fee overruns) among health professionals practicing in the city for the following examinations and care:

  • Mandatory examinations related to pregnancy
  • Compulsory examinations for children under 6 years of age
  • Care, related or not to maternity, intervener of 1er day of 6e months to 12 days after delivery.

Dentist

You can benefit from a oral prevention exam.

This preventive examination is fully supported by the Health Insurance. You don't have to advance any fees.

Upon receipt of your declaration of pregnancy, your health insurance fund will send you an invitation letter accompanied by the printed form for your oral examination.

You then make an appointment with your dentist. You must go there with your support print and your Vital Card.

During this appointment, your dental surgeon or doctor will take stock of the health of your teeth and gums, and provide you with oral health advice for you and your future child.

Hospital Hotel

Health facilities may establish a non-medical accommodation device said hospital hotel.

This accommodation can be offered if you live in a municipality whose center is at more than 45 minutes by car from the nearest establishment.

This temporary accommodation is for a period of 5 consecutive nights at most before the expected date of delivery.

FYI  

Other durations may apply in Guyana or in case of pregnancy at risk.

Medicare covers these accommodation costs if you are in one of the following situations :

  • Social insurance
  • Beneficiary of State medical aid (AME)
  • Beneficiary of Social Security in Mayotte
  • Affiliated to a social security scheme of a member country of l' (EEE), Switzerland or another country pursuant to an agreement.

Childbirth costs

The costs of childbirth and their care vary depending on the establishment you choose:

Hospital or clinic under contract

Childbirth and living expenses, up to a maximum of 12 days, are covered by 100%.

They are reimbursed directly to the establishment by your health insurance fund.

You participate in the fees only for the portion corresponding to the fee overruns and the costs for personal comfort (examples: private room, television), these costs not being covered by the Health Insurance. 

The hospital package is fully supported from 1er day of 6e month of pregnancy until 12e day after delivery.

The transport costs at the hospital or clinic, by ambulance or other means of transport, can be taken care of on medical prescription.

Clinic not contracted

Childbirth and living expenses, up to a maximum of 12 days, are reimbursed to 100% on the basis of and within the limits of the Health Insurance rates.

If you choose to give birth in a private clinic that does not have a contract, you should know that the rates are generally higher.

The remaining costs may be high and you will have to advance the costs (examples: fee overruns, charges for personal comfort such as a television or a private room).

Full support

You continue to be support at 100% and to benefit from the advance fee waiver (third-party payer) for all your medical expenses related or not with your pregnancy.

Supervised by a midwife

You can benefit from a followed by a midwife for you and your child.

This follow-up takes place within a week of leaving the maternity ward, most often at your home within 48 hours of your child's arrival at home.

FYI  

At the end of this visit, according to your needs, your health and that of your child, a 2nd appointment may be offered.

To be sure to benefit from this follow-up, it is recommended to contact a midwife from the maternity ward the day after delivery.

If a midwife is already following your pregnancy, you can tell her shortly before birth that you are counting on her for home follow-up until your child's 12th day.

The midwife, after her 1era visit, will tell you what follow-up is needed.

This monitoring is supported at 100% by the Health Insurance.

You can declare a referring midwife which accompanies you throughout your journey and after pregnancy.

This statement is made before the end of the 5the month of pregnancy.

This support is taken care of at 100% by the Maternity Insurance, without advance payment.

Dentist

You can benefit from a oral prevention exam.

This preventive examination is fully supported by the Health Insurance, without advance payment (third-party payment).
