Declaration of pregnancy

Verified 24 October 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

If your pregnancy is confirmed, Health Insurance must be informed. Declaring your pregnancy allows the health insurance to cover your pregnancy and the payment of future family benefits. The steps to be taken vary depending on whether they are done on the internet or with a paper form. We explain the rules to know.

You must perform a 1er prenatal examination with your doctor (general practitioner or gynecologist) or midwife before the end of the 3e month of pregnancy, i.e. during the 1er trimester of pregnancy.

Your doctor or midwife can make the pregnancy declaration online. It is then automatically transmitted to your health insurance fund and your family allowance fund (CAF).

Otherwise, you must submit the paper return.

On the internet

The declaration on the internet is possible whether you are in the general or agricultural scheme:

General case

Your doctor or midwife completes your pregnancy declaration online and sends it directly to your health insurance fund and your Family Allowance Fund (Caf).

The declaration of your pregnancy is recorded automatically by the organizations and attested by the realization of the 1er prenatal examination.

You don't have to fill out a form or send mail.

Upon receipt of your declaration of pregnancy, your health insurance fund offers you:

  • A personalized schedule of your medical examinations. It tells you month after month the dates of your main follow-up examinations of your pregnancy, the periods of care at 100% and the dates of your maternity leave
  • A checklist Prepare your next consultation to anticipate the upcoming visit to the doctor or midwife following you
  • A memo named The comforter list allows future parents to find, on a simple and accessible document, all the actions to be carried out during pregnancy and after the birth of the child (administrative procedures, medical follow-up, other health or practical information…)
