Medical visits of the child: compulsory examinations

How many compulsory medical examinations does a child receive? From birth until the age of 16, he receives 20 examinations. These tests help monitor your child's health through adolescence. They are taken care of at 100% no matter which doctor performs them. We present you the information to know.

Up to 6 years

The content of these examinations shall cover the following points:

  • Growth Curve
  • Physical, psychological and behavioral development
  • Emotional life of the child
  • Screening for sensory (sight, hearing) and psychological (e.g. anxiety) disorders, language disorders and neurodevelopment
  • Vaccinations (verification of vaccination status, mandatory and recommended vaccinations and possible preventive treatments for childhood diseases)
  • Healthy behaviors and environments (e.g. physical activity, sports, screen exposure)
  • Respect for dental follow-up.

These examinations make it possible to ensure:

  • Good health of the child
  • And refer parents to additional care if needed.

At the end of this examination, the doctor completes the 1st health certificate.

During the 2e week

At the end of this examination, the doctor completes the 2nd Health Certificate.

At 11 months

Between 16 and 18 months

Between 23 and 24 months

At the end of this examination, the doctor completes the 3rd Health Certificate.

Between 2 and 5 years

4 exams (once a year)

The results of these examinations are mentioned in the child health record.

Please note

A medical examination is organized at the nursery school for children aged 3 to 4 years.

The examinations are made either by the attending physician the child, or by another doctor chosen by the parents practicing in the city or in the PMI: titleContent.

Who shall I contact

Consultations for these mandatory examinations are reimbursed to 100%, with no advance charge for parents, except excess of fees.

These consultations are also fully supported for the beneficiaries of State medical aid (AME).

At 6 years of age and older

The content of these examinations shall cover the following points:

  • Growth Curve
  • Physical, psychological and behavioral development
  • Emotional life of the child

Finally, at 6 years of age and older, other topics are added, and depending on age, screenings and evaluations on the duration of exposure to screens, adaptation to school life, weekly duration of physical and sports activity, « dys » disorders, pubertal development, signs of malaise, harassment…

Since the 29/07/2026, an appointment for early detection of cardiovascular diseases (example: familial hypercholesterolemia) is carried out within a year of the 6thth child's birthday.

These examinations make it possible to ensure:

  • Good health of the child

These mandatory examinations are scheduled for 4 periods:

  • At 6 years
  • Between 8 and 9 years old included
  • Between 11 and 13 years old included
  • Between 15 and 16 years old included.

Tests are performed by a general practitioner or pediatrician.
