You have lost your identity card and you wish get a new card ? We present you step by step the process to follow. It differs depending on whether the loss occurred in France or abroad.
In France
Step-by-step approach
You must report the loss of your identity card to the police authorities only if you don't want to do one again immediately. A receipt will be given to you.
If you do immediately When you apply for a new card, you do not have to contact the police authorities. The declaration of loss will be made at the counter of the town hall at the time of submission of the dossier and attached to the application form.
The location of the request does not depend on your domicile. You can surrender in any town hall, provided that it is equipped with a recording station.

- 1 proof of address
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp
- If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
You have an expired passport
Expiry date: less than 5 years
You must submit the following documents:
- Your passport
- 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
- 1 proof of address
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp
- If you have made a pre-application, the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (it is advisable to print the pre-application summary).
Expiry date: more than 5 years
You must submit the following documents:
- 1 photo ID less than 6 months and conforms to standards
- 1 proof of address
- If you don't have a passport or it is older, check if the civil status of the place of birth is dematerialized. If this is not the case, a birth certificate (full copy or extract with filiation) from less than 3 months.
- Proof of French nationality if your nationality does not appear from your birth certificate
- Declaration of loss to be completed on site or using the form cerfa n°14011 to be completed, signed and printed
- Tax stamp

You don't have a passport

The identity card is not manufactured on site and therefore cannot be issued immediately.
The manufacturing time depends on the location and period of the request. It takes several weeks and, as the summer holidays approach, delays can extend.

If you entered a mobile phone number when you applied, you will receive an SMS when your ID card is available.
You must remove the card personally at the place where the application was lodged.
It must be removed within three months. After this time, it will be destroyed.

The identity card is in the form of a credit card.
The card is valid for 10 years.
Abroad
Step-by-step approach
You must report the loss of your identity card to the local police authorities and the nearest embassy or consulate only if you do not wish to reapply immediately a new map. A receipt will be given to you.
