How do I give a proxy to another voter?

If you are absent or unable to travel to the polling station for municipal elections, you can give power of attorney to any person of your choice provided that she is registered on a list of electors (not necessarily in the same municipality as you).

You can make a power of attorney for only one round or for both. On the day of the vote, the designated person will have to go to your polling station to vote for you.

There is no fixed deadline for the establishment of proxy votes. However, it is advisable to carry out the procedure as soon as possible to ensure that the power of attorney can be taken into account by the town hall of your municipality.

How do I apply for a power of attorney?

There are several ways you can apply for a power of attorney.

Via a paper form available in police stations, gendarmerie brigades, judicial courts or places welcoming the public defined by the prefects

You must:

1. present yourself in person with proof of identity in any police station, in any gendarmerie brigade, in the judicial court on which your home or workplace depends, or in a public place determined by a prefect;
2. complete the form issued to you. This includes the first names, last name, date of birth and national voter number of the person voting for you, as well as your own national voter number. You can find this number on your electoral card or via the online service « interrogating your electoral situation ».

A receipt is given to you at the end of the process.

You can also recover online the form, then at your choice:

• fill it directly on your computer, then print it on 2 sheets (no double-sided);
• or print it on 2 sheets (no double-sided), then fill it by hand legibly and without scratches.

You must then present yourself in person, with the completed form and proof of identity in any police station, in any gendarmerie brigade, in the judicial court on which your home or workplace depends, or in a place welcoming the public determined by a prefect to validate your power of attorney.

A receipt is given to you at the end of the process.

By applying for a power of attorney online and then visiting a police station, gendarmerie brigade or court

You must:

1. retrieve the voter number and date of birth of the person who will vote for you (or know his first names, last name, date of birth and the municipality in which he votes);
2. surrender on the online service maprocuration.gouv.fr and connect via FranceConnect;
3. indicate an email address;
4. follow the instructions given to you to establish your proxy;
5. go to any police station, any gendarmerie brigade, the judicial court on which your home or workplace depends, or to a place welcoming the public determined by a prefect. You have to present proof of identity and indicate the reference of your request (this information is present on the email sent to you following your approach on the MaProcuration online service).

In a completely dematerialized way, if you have a digital identity certified by France Identity

You must:

1. retrieve the voter number and date of birth of the person who will vote for you (or know his first names, last name, date of birth and the municipality in which he votes);
2. surrender on the online service maprocuration.gouv.fr and identify you using FranceConnect;
3. indicate an email address;
4. follow the instructions given to you to establish your proxy;
5. once your application has been validated, choose option 2 « online » for identity verification;
6. indicate the municipality in which you are located;
7. authenticate you, at the end of the procedure, with your certified digital identity.

You then receive an email entitled « your power of attorney has been validated ».

How do I apply for a power of attorney if you are unable to travel?

If illness, hospitalization or disability prevents you from traveling, a police officer or constable can go to your home or the place where you are (Ehpad, hospital…) to check your identity.

You must make the request in writing to the police station or gendarmerie brigade, and attach it a certificate of honor which indicates that you cannot move.
