You are entitled to the allowance at the time of the child's arrival in the home if you have adopted a child or if you have taken in a child for adoption.

The allowance is paid regardless of the age of the child, up to the age of 20.

The basic allowance is paid monthly.

It is paid from 1er day of calendar month following the date of arrival at the child's home or the adoption order, for 3 years, up to the child's 20th birthday.

      Example :

If the child arrived on February 15, the allowance is paid from February 1er March.

      FYI

In the event of the child's death, the basic allowance is automatically extended by 3 months after the death.

In the case of simultaneous adoptions, you can accumulate several basic allocations.

The basic allowance may be cumulated with:

On the other hand, the allocation is not stackable with:

      • the family supplement
      • Or the basic allowance for another child excluding simultaneous adoptions.
