You are a civil servant of active category if you hold a job or have held one or more jobs classified as active for a minimum period.
An active category job is a job subject to a particular risk or exceptional fatigue.
By special risk or exceptional fatigue, we mean inherent risks permanently to a job and leading to premature wear such that it justifies early retirement.
Any job that is not classified as an active category is a sedentary category employment.
Jobs are classified as active by decree.
There is a list of jobs classified as active in the State civil service, in the territorial civil service and in the hospital public service.

If you are a civil servant, it is possible to retire before the minimum age of departure if you are in one of the following situations and meet the required conditions:
- You started working young and can benefit from a early retirement for a long career
- You worked while being handicapped
- You are recognized as permanently unfit for your duties and admitted to the disability pension
- You have interrupted or reduced your activity for caring for a disabled child
- You were exposed to theasbestos during your professional life
- You are a public servant, have at least 15 years of service and you or your spouse have infirmity or incurable disease making it impossible to practice any profession.
