Baccalaureate: new scoring rules

The Minister of National Education announced the implementation of new provisions to “raise the level of the diploma” from 2026. A decree of December 4, 2025 modifies the conditions for awarding additional points that may allow access to catch-up or obtain a mention. Public Service tell you more.

The decree of December 4, 2025 confirms the outlines of a “toughening” of the rules relating to the baccalaureate.

It introduces two first measures, applicable from the 2026 session of the review.

  • A minimum threshold will now be required for access to catch-up oral examinations. Students with a general average less than 8/20 will no longer be able to access the second group of events (called “catch-up”).
  • Until now, the selection board could add points to the sum of those obtained by the candidate in the tests. These “jury points” rounded the student's overall average and provided a “boost” to graduation or a mention. The allocation of these points is now capped at 0.5 points on the overall average.

These provisions aim to ensure that obtaining the baccalaureate is based on “a clearly validated level”.
