National patent diploma: the share of continuous control is changing

Publié le 26 août 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The method of grading the college certificate is evolving from the next session, the final exams of which are organized at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. The share of continuous monitoring for graduation is changed, and the 800-point scoring system ends.

Obtaining the national patent diploma is based on:

  • the average of all mandatory teaching scores of 3e (taking into account above-average points for optional teachings, such as “languages and cultures of antiquity” or “choral singing”);
  • and the scores obtained in 5 tests passed at the end of the 3e (4 written tests on the French, mathematics, science and “history-geography and moral and civic education” programs, and an oral test based on a project conducted as part of the history of the arts teaching, or during interdisciplinary practical teaching or as part of one of the educational courses).

From the 2026 session of the national patent diploma, the distribution between the final test scores and the continuous control evolves as follows:

  • 60% for final test scores, compared with 50 % previously;
  • 40% for continuous monitoring, compared with 50% previously.

In addition, from this session, the final exams of which will take place at the end of the 2025-2026 school year, students will get a final average out of 20 and no longer a score out of 800.

You can find the specific scoring modalities of individual candidates for the national patent diploma, on the website of the Ministry of Education.

Please note

Since June 2025, separate grades have been awarded for history-geography and moral and civic education; and a “very well with congratulations from the jury” rating distinguishes students who score at least 18 out of 20.
