What if you don't get a ticket after a radar flash?
Verified 16 October 2025 - Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
When a radar flashes a vehicle, a notice of violation is sent to the holder of the certificate of registration () of the vehicle except in exceptional cases (e.g. if the image taken by the radar does not conform).
If you do not receive a ticket, make sure the address is up to date on the registration certificate of your vehicle. In case of change of address, the update must be made within 1 month.
The time limit to receive a ticket notice is on average between 10 days and 1 month, depending on the type of radar (fixed, mobile, red light, etc.). If you have not received a ticket after one yearHowever, you will no longer be able to be prosecuted and you will not have to pay a fine. Indeed, the limitation period for the prosecution is one year from the day on which the offense has been committed.
FYI
In the event of an incorrect address on the certificate of registration, you may receive a notice of fine directly increased without having received the original notice of contravention. In this case you can challenge the increased fine.
