A young person aged 18 to 25, French or foreigners, who has a certain length of professional activity can benefit from the RSA: titleContent young active under certain conditions.       You can apply for the RSA young active if you are French aged 16 to 25 and you reside in France in a stable and effective manner.

      Unless you're lone parent, you must have been employed for at least 2 years full-time (at least 3,214 hours) during the 3 years preceding the date of your application.

      The following activities are taken into account:

      • Employed and self-employed activities
      • Hours of occasional or reduced activity completed during periods of unemployment and resulting in the maintenance of unemployment benefits
      • Hours of activity completed as part of a volunteer contract in the armies, except training hours

      You can apply for the Young Active RSA if you are between 16 and 25 years old and live in France in a stable and effective manner. You must also fulfill certain conditions of stay.

      You are considered a single parent if you are pregnant or if you have at least 1 child or 1 dependent and that you find yourself alone following a life event. This is the case, for example, if your spouse dies or if you separate from them.

      You can then benefit from an increase in the RSA amount. This increase is also called mark-up.

      The duration of this increase varies according to the date of occurrence of the event:

      • If the event occurs after the child's 3 years of age, the increase lasts 12 months and must be paid during the 18 months following the date of the event. You must therefore report this type of event to your Caf: titleContent within 6 months of its occurrence.
      • If the event occurs before the child's 3 years of age, the increase lasts until the child is 3 years old.

      Resources considered

      The amount of the RSA is equal to the difference between the lump sum and all of your resources. The amount of resources withheld corresponds to the monthly average of the resources received during the 3 months preceding your application.

      Some resources (ARE: titleContentdaily allowances, housing allowances, family benefits, investment income, etc.) shall be taken into account, and others don't.

      If you perceive a housing assistance or if you are hosted for free or owner of your dwelling, a lump sum is added to your resources. This package depends on the number of people at home.

      Example :

      For an active young person without a child receiving housing assistance, the amount of the RSA is equal to €573.49 (€651.69-€78.20).

      You can make the request to your Caf, the services of the department, CSF: titleContent from your home (in some cases) or from an association authorized by the department.

      In any case, check with these organizations beforehand to see if they are competent to process your request.

      After examination of your file by the services of the department, you receive a notification for a period of 3 months. The reference period is the quarter preceding the quarter in which you receive the RSA.

      The RSA is paid to you from 1er the day of the month in which you filed your application. It is paid monthly, in due term by the Caf of your department: for example, the RSA of the month of March is paid in April.

      The RSA is not taxable.

      Since the 1er March 2025, your quarterly online resource reporting is evolving.

      Now, your wages, replacement income or other benefits (unemployment, pensions, pensions, sick leave, etc.) are pre-filled in net social amount for your entire hearth.

      You must review your pre-filled resources, validate them and, if necessary, complete your return with your other resources collected over the period (for example, child support).

      In the event of a change of residence, family or professional situation, you must inform your Caf: titleContent. If you no longer meet the conditions to benefit from the RSA, the payment ceases from 1er the day of the month you no longer fill them out.

      Obligation to seek employment

      If your household resources are, on average, less than €500 per month, you must:

      • looking for a job,
      • or take the necessary steps to create your company,
      • or follow the insertion actions offered to you.

      These obligations are specified in your personalized project for access to employment (PPAE), established with your France Travail advisor (formerly Pôle emploi).

      You may not refuse more than 2 reasonable job offers as defined in your EAP.

      Suspension of payment of SSA

      In case of non-compliance with your obligations

      The departments of the department may decide to reduce your RSA: titleContent, if you are in any of the following cases:

      • You do not comply, without legitimate reason, with the provisions of your contract of employment
      • You are removed by France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) from the list of job seekers
      • You refuse to submit to the controls provided for

      You are then invited to present your observations to a multidisciplinary team with the person of your choice.

      This team is made up in particular of France Travail agents (formerly Pôle emploi), representatives of the departments, professionals in social and professional integration (for example, social worker).

      The reduction of the SSA can only take place after your comments have been made.

      The services of the department may decide to resume the payment of the RSA from the date of conclusion of your contract of employment.

      During the 1re penalty, the amount of your RSA can be reduced up to 80% for 1 to 3 months.

      In the following sanctions, the percentage reduction is set by the department services for 1 to 4 months.

      However, the reduction may not exceed 50%, in the 2 cases, if your household includes other people than yourself.

      At the end of a reduction period, the department can remove you from the list of RSA beneficiaries.

      In case of hospitalization

      It depends on your situation:

      General case

      The amount of your RSA is reduced by 50% if you meet the following 3 conditions:

      • You are hospitalized in a health facility for more than 60 days
      • You are covered by health insurance
      • You don't live as a couple or you don't have a dependent.
      You're pregnant

      If you are pregnant, there is no reduction in the amount of the RSA.

      However, the amount shall be reduced by 50% takes effect when 2e quarterly review of your RSA following the start of your hospitalization.

      In the event of incarceration

      It depends on your situation:

      You don't live as a couple

      Your RSA is suspended as of 2e quarterly review following the start of your incarceration if you meet the following 2 conditions:

      • You are incarcerated for more than 60 days
      • You don't live as a couple and you have no dependants
      You live as a couple

      If you live as a couple or have a dependent, their entitlement to HSA is reviewed.

      You are then no longer considered a member of the household.

      The payment of the RSA shall resume from 1er day of the month during which your imprisonment ends.

      You are not affected by this suspension if you have one or more dependent children.

      Claim and overpayment

      If you have not received all the RSA benefits to which you were entitled, you can claim payment for 2 years.

      When you have received an overpayment from RSA, your Caf: titleContent can ask you for a refund for 2 years. The overpayment is recovered by deductions from the future RSA.

      If you no longer receive the RSA, the amounts wrongly collected are repaid by:

      Below €77However, money wrongly collected is not recovered.
