Retirement amount of public official

Verified 01 January 2026 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Would you like to know the amount of your future pension and how it is calculated? We present the general rules for calculating the retirement pension of the SRE: titleContent or CNRACL: titleContent.

Please note

If you are contractor, you benefit from a Social Security Retirement Insurance pension as a private sector employee.

It is very difficult to calculate one's own retirement pension.

However, you can estimate the amount of your retirement in your personal retirement account on the official Info-retraite website.

This estimate is based on the known data of your pension plans.

This service allows you to see the estimated amounts of your various basic and supplementary retirement pensions.

You can see the total amount of your pensions, gross and net before taxes.

You can customize your estimate by changing your starting age or by adding missing periods and additional information (children, disability...):

Estimate the amount of your pension

The amount of your retirement pension from SRE: titleContent or CNRACL: titleContent shall be calculated as follows:

Last index treatment x 75% x (Your number of liquidatable quarters / Duration of insurance to obtain a full rate pension)

We detail these different parameters that are taken into account to calculate your retirement.

What is the basis for calculating the pension?

Your retirement from SRE: titleContent or CNRACL: titleContent is calculated based on your last index treatment crude held for at least 6 months on the date of your separation.

If you have been promoted less than 6 months before your retirement, your previous index salary will be taken into account.

If you are a part-time employee, the amount of your retirement pension is calculated on the basis of your full-time index salary.

How long is the insurance required to obtain a full pension?

The length of insurance required to obtain a full pension varies depending on whether you are a sedentary or an active public servant and according to your date of birth :

Reminder

Retirement shall be granted as an active category official provided that he has completed at least 17 years in one or more active category posts.

Since 1er January 2024, services performed as a contractor in an active category job during the 10 years preceding your tenure are recognized as active services for the acquisition of the right to early departure.

You are entitled to a full pension, particularly in the following 2 cases :

  • You retire before the automatic full rate age with the number of quarters required to qualify for a full rate pension. For example, you are a sedentary civil servant born in 1964, you are entitled to a full pension if you retire between 62 years 9 months and 67 years with 170 quarters of insurance
  • You retire at the automatic full rate age, regardless of your number of quarters. For example, if you are a sedentary public servant born in 1964, you are entitled to a full pension if you retire at age 67 regardless of your number of quarters.

If you retire before the automatic full rate age without having the number of quarters required to qualify for a full rate pension, the amount of your retirement pension is subject to a haircut, i.e. a reduction.

What is the number of liquidable quarters?

Of the quarters that make up your insurance term, some are taken into account for the calculation of your pension, others are not.

The insurance quarters used to calculate your pension are the liquidatable quarters.

In particular, if you have worked part-time, your quarters of part-time work are fully taken into account to calculate your insurance period.

But for the calculation of your pension, your part-time quarters are taken into account for their actual working time unless you have overpaid.

Example :

5 years worked part-time for personal reasons at 80% have 5 years (20 quarters) to calculate your insurance term (i.e. the number of quarters required to qualify for a full pension).

But for the calculation of the amount of your retirement pension, these 5 years part-time to 80% count towards their actual working time, i.e. 4 years (16 quarters), unless you have overpaid.

Some enhancements or increases in the duration of insurance may be added to the liquidatable insurance quarters.

Subsidies and increases in the duration of insurance are additional liquidatable quarters granted free of charge (without contribution in return) depending on certain situations.

The main enhancements are enhancements for children.

You are entitled to a one-year bonus per child for each child born or adopted before 1er January 2004.

You are also entitled to this one-year bonus for the following children if you have taken care of them before 1er January 2004 and if you raised them during at least 9 years before their 21st birthdaye birthday :

  • Children from a previous marriage of your spouse
  • Children who have been delegated parental authority on your behalf or on behalf of your spouse
  • Children placed under your guardianship or that of your spouse, if the guardianship has been accompanied by effective and permanent custody of the child
  • Children taken into your household if you or your spouse justifies having assumed the effective and permanent charge.

To benefit from this one-year enhancement, you must have reduced or temporarily interrupted your professional activity to take care of the child according to one of the following conditions:

  • Maternity leave or adoption leave
  • Parental Leave
  • Parental Presence Leave
  • Availability to raise a child under the age of 12
  • Part-time entitlement to raise a child at 50% for a continuous period of at least 4 months
  • Part-time entitlement to raise a child at 60% for a continuous period of at least 5 months
  • Part-time entitlement to raise a child at 70% for a continuous period of at least 7 months.

One one-year enhancement you are also granted if you complete the following 2 conditions :

  • You gave birth during your years of study, before you were recruited as a civil servant
  • You were recruited into the public service within 2 years of graduating from the competition.

From 1er September 2026, a quarter-on-quarter improvement will be granted for each of your children born since 1er January 2004 and after your recruitment as a civil servant.

If you are a civil servant of active category, you can also benefit from bonuses or increases in the duration of insurance, in particular in the following cases:

  • Increase in the duration of insurance by one year per 10-year period of actual service if you are a hospital official and have completed at least 17 years in one or more active category jobs
  • Increase in the period of insurance by one year per 10-year period of actual service if you are a civil servant or former civil servant of the Ministry of Defense or of the National Institution for Invalids occupying and have completed at least 17 years in one or more active category jobs
  • Enhancement of 50% the time actually spent in the underground sewer networks or in the body of identifiers of the forensic institute of the Paris police prefecture, within the limit of 10 years, if you have completed at least 12 years in the underground networks or in the body of identifiers, including 6 years consecutively
  • Bonus equal to one 5e actual service time as a professional firefighter, up to a maximum of 5 years, if you have completed 17 years as a professional firefighter and 27 years as a public servant
  • Bonus equal to one 5e actual service time as a national police officer, a customs officer in the surveillance branch, prison administration surveillance staff and an air traffic control engineer, up to a maximum of 5 years.

Répondez aux questions successives et les réponses s’afficheront automatiquement

At least 40 years of service

The monthly amount of the guaranteed minimum is equal to €1,366.35 gross per month.

Between 15 and 39 years of service

The monthly gross amount of the guaranteed minimum shall be calculated as follows:

  • 57.5% x €1,366.35 for the first 15 years of service
  • + 2.5% per additional year of service between 15 and 30 years
  • + 0.5% per additional year between the ages of 30 and 39.

Example :

For 35 years of service, you are entitled to a guaranteed minimum equal to:

€1,366.35 x (57.5% for the first 15 years + 2.5% x 15 for the next 15 years + 0.5% x 5 for the last 5 years)

or €1,366.35 x 97.5% = €1,332.19 gross per month

Less than 15 years of service

The monthly amount of the guaranteed minimum varies depending on whether you are retired for disability or not (general case).

General case

The monthly gross amount of the guaranteed minimum shall be calculated as follows:

(€1,366.35 x number of agent quarters) / number of insurance quarters required to benefit from a full rate pension

Example :

You are a sedentary civil servant, born in 1964, you must have 170 quarters to receive a full pension.

If you retire after 13 years of effective service (52 quarters), you are entitled to a guaranteed minimum equal to:

(€1,366.35 x 52) / 170 = €417.94 gross per month

You are retired for disability

The monthly gross amount of the guaranteed minimum shall be calculated as follows:

(€785.65 / 15) x number of years of service

Example :

If you are admitted to retirement for disability after 13 years of actual service, you are entitled to a guaranteed minimum equal to:

(€785.65 / 15) x 13 =€680.89 gross per month

Your retirement pension is subject to the following contributions, unless exempted:

Your retirement pension is upgraded to 1er January of each year based on the average change in consumer prices excluding tobacco.

Reminder

The increase in the index point of civil servants' salaries has no impact on the amount of your retirement pension.
