Caregivers' old-age insurance allows you to validate quarters for your basic retirement, during the periods during which you devote yourself to accompanying a child or an adult who is seriously ill or has a disability.

You can be covered by the old-age caregiver's insurance if you are in one of the following situations:

Please note

Caregivers cannot be insured under old-age insurance on the basis of paid or unpaid caregiver leave for civil servants, military personnel and judges, as they are covered by their special pension scheme.

What steps should be taken to be covered by the caregivers' old-age insurance?

The procedure for enrolling caregivers in old-age insurance depends on your situation:

  • if you are a beneficiary of the parental presence allowance or the caregiver's daily allowance, the affiliation is automatic (you have no procedure to perform);
  • if you are caring for a child with a disability, affiliation is automatic if your income is less than 63% of the Social Security ceiling ;
  • if you are on unpaid caregiver leave, or if you are a caregiver of an adult with a disability, you must apply for affiliation with the family allowance fund or the agricultural social mutuality on which you depend.

Please note

Caregivers' old-age insurance coverage is free of charge. It lasts as long as you meet the eligibility criteria; however, the number of caregiver leave and daily allowance contributions is limited to 264 days over your entire career.
