The minimum wage will be raised by 1.18% from 1er January 2026. On 12 December, the social partners and the group of experts on the minimum wage discussed the draft decree on upgrading.

The last (anticipated) increase in the minimum wage was in November 2024, at 2%. There had been no further increase in 1er January 2025.

Two parameters are used to calculate its evolution:

  • inflation: the adjustment takes into account the evolution of inflation observed for the 20% of households with the lowest incomes. Non-tobacco inflation between November 2024 and November 2025 for the bottom 20% of households was 0.6%.
  • wage developments: the evolution also takes into account half of the increase in purchasing power observed on the basic hourly wages of workers and employees. Between September 2024 and September 2025, these wages increased by 2%, while prices increased by 0.8%, representing a purchasing power gain of 1.19%. Half of this gain is included in the calculation (0.595%).
New Smic amounts in 2026

The new amounts will be as follows:

  • Gross hourly minimum wage: €12.02 (against €11.88);
  • Gross monthly minimum wage (for full-time work): €1,823.03 (€1,801.80), an increase of €21.23 gross per month;
  • Net monthly minimum wage: €1,443.11.

These amounts apply in mainland France, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.

Please note

In Mayotte, the minimum wage will reach 87.5% of the net minimum wage applicable in metropolitan France and the other overseas territories. The gross hourly minimum wage increases from €8.98 to €9.33, or a gross monthly amount of €1,415.05 (compared to €1,361.97) for full-time work; an increase equivalent to 3.90%.

FYI

The amount of the net minimum wage received by the employee depends on the company concerned and on certain contributions linked to the sector of activity.

Minimum guaranteed in 2026

The guaranteed minimum is set at €4.25 (vs. €4.22). The guaranteed minimum is a reference value that is used in particular for the assessment of professional expenses (travel, meals, etc.), benefits in kind in certain cases (housing, food, etc.) and social allowances.

FYI

Apart from the annual revaluation, the SMIC may be revalued during the year if the consumer price index increases by at least 2 % compared to the index recorded when the last SMIC amount was established; the SMIC is then automatically increased in the same proportions.
