The allowance for adults with disabilities (AAH) and the specific solidarity allowance (ASS) are 2 aids to guarantee a minimum of resources to meet everyday expenses.

They are awarded to beneficiaries in particular situations: AAH is for persons with disabilities and is awarded on the basis of incapacity, age and means; ASS may be given to persons who have exhausted their entitlement to unemployment benefit and whose means do not exceed a certain amount.

These 2 allowances are no longer cumulative since the 1ster January 2017. However, persons who had, on 31 December 2016 (at the time of the reform prohibiting cumulation), the rights to receive the two aids simultaneously benefited from a possibility of accumulation limited to 10 years. This transitional regime will therefore end on 31 December 2026.

FYI

The AAH and the ASS cannot be combined. AAH takes precedence over ASS. If you are a beneficiary of the ASS and now qualify for AAH, the payment of the ASS will be suspended from the beginning of the period covered by AAH.
