Why a prevention fund?

Clay shrinkage and swelling (RGA) is a natural phenomenon linked to climatic hazards. In dry periods, clays shrink; in wet periods, they swell. These movements weaken buildings located in areas with clay soils.

54% of French households are affected by this phenomenon and the associated claims can be very significant.

To prevent them, the Ministry of Ecological Transition is launching an experiment in 11 departments. He sets up a prevention fund intended to provide financial and technical support to households for:

• Have a vulnerability diagnosis performed.
• Launch prevention work before the first disasters if necessary, being accompanied by professionals throughout the course.

The departments concerned are as follows : Allier, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Dordogne, Gers, Indre, Lot-et-Garonne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Nord, Puy-de-Dôme, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne.

The works that can be covered by this fund are related to the management of buried water networks, the management of vegetation and the waterproofing of the soils alongside the dwelling.

The conditions for applying for aid through the Clay Prevention Fund are as follows:

• This is a detached house and is your main residence.
• It is located in one of the 11 departments concerned by the experiment.
• You live in an area of high exposure to clay shrinkage-swelling.
• The house was completed more than 15 years ago.
• The house is not semi-detached and has 2 levels maximum.
• You've never had a loss or a very small loss.
• You own an occupant.
• You're within the resource limits.
