What is the amount of the back-to-school allowance in 2025?

Publié le 15 mai 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The amount of the back-to-school allowance depends on your child’s age. This aid allows you to finance expenses related to the school year (supplies, canteen, etc.). Service-Public.fr provides you with information on the amounts of the LSA paid for the 2025 season and the maximum resources that must not be exceeded to receive this allowance.

The Back-to-School Allowance (RSSA) is paid on a means-tested basis to families with children aged 6 to 18 who are in school, apprenticeship or in special care. Nearly 3 million families benefit.

The amount of the LAR paid for the 2025 season

The amount you receive for the 2025 school year depends on your child’s age as of December 31, 2024. Back-to-school allowance, upgraded on 1er april 2025, shall be:

  • €423.48 per child aged 6-10 years, compared to €416.40 previously;
  • €446.85 per child aged between 11 and 14 years, compared with €439.38 previously;
  • €462.32 per child aged between 15 and 18 years, compared to €454.60 previously.

Please note

The back-to-school allowance is paid in august, on a date to be specified at a later date.

LRA 2025 Resource Ceilings

In order to qualify for the allowance, the family's resources must not exceed a certain ceiling fixed according to the number of dependent children. Income (categorical net income) for year N-2 is taken into account. For the 2025 school year, it is therefore your 2023 income that is used as a reference. The ceilings differ according to the number of dependent children.

Order of 20 December 2024 sets the 2023 resources ceiling at €21 880 for 2025, compared to €20 878 in 2024. This ceiling is also increased by €6 564 per dependent child, compared to €6 263 last year. Adding up the cap and the top-up per dependent child, the following are the resource levels that must not have been exceeded in 2023 to receive the CWB in 2025:

Tableau - LRA 2025 2023 Resource Ceilings (effective July 31, 2025)

2

3

FYI

If your resources are only slightly above these limits, you can receive a differential allowance based on your income.

For the resource ceilings for Mayotte, see the Caf.

Reminder

Category net income: income (wages, income from land and property, agricultural profits, etc.) less expenses (maintenance payments, care expenses for the elderly, etc.) and tax allowances (person over 65, disabled, etc.).

What steps should be taken to benefit from the SRA?

  • If your child is between the ages of 6 and 15 on December 31 after the start of school: you have no procedures to do; the LRA is paid to you automatically. If your child is enrolled in CP when he or she is not yet 6 years old, you must send a certificate of schooling to your Caf.
  • If your child is between 16 and 18 years old: you must declare from mid-July that he will still be in school or learning by the start of the 2025 school year, in the “My Account” area of the website of the Caf (or on the mobile application “My Account”).

FYI

Aren't you a Cfa recipient? In this case, you must first create a personal space on the website of the Caf. Then you need to download a form in the section “My steps” / “Personal life” / ‘Parenthood’, print it and return it completed to your Cof to declare your family situation.

Please note

Scholarships middle school and from high school may be combined with the back-to-school allowance. They are also awarded on a means-tested basis.
