When will you receive the Back-to-School Allowance (RST)?

The Ministry of Solidarity has just published the schedule for the payment of the back-to-school allowance (ARS) for the 2025 school year. The date differs depending on where you live. This aid, which is paid to nearly 3 million families, helps to meet the expenses of the start of the school year. Payment dates, award conditions and amounts: all information with Service-Public.fr.

School supplies, materials, clothing... the costs associated with the start of the school year are significant for families each year. The back-to-school allowance (ARS) is an aid for families to meet these expenses.

Conditioned to the resources of the home, the ARS is aimed at parents with children of 6 to 18 years who are enrolled in a public or private institution, in an apprenticeship or in a specialized care institution.

Reminder

Parents who wish to educate their child at home themselves cannot receive the ARS unless the child is enrolled in correspondence courses (e.g. the Cned).

Payment dates for the 2025 school year

The SIA is traditionally paid in August, a little before the start of the school year.

For the 2025 school year, payments will take place:

  • the tuesday, 5 august in the departments of Mayotte and Réunion;
  • the tuesday, 19 august in mainland France and in the departments of Guadeloupe, Guyana and Martinique.

Resource conditions for the 2025 school year

To benefit from the back-to-school allowance, these are the resources to be N-2 which are taken into account, i.e. the household's 2023 resources for the LRA for the 2025 school year.

The allowance is paid directly by the family allowance funds (Caf) or by the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) if you depend on the agricultural scheme. It is possible to benefit from the allowance for several consecutive years, the family situation is reassessed each year.

The limits you cannot exceed depend on the number of children you have to care for:

  • €28,444 for 1 dependent child;
  • €35,008 for 2 dependent children;
  • €41,572 for 3 dependent children;
  • then €6,564 per additional child.

FYI  

If the household's resources are very little above these limits, you may be eligible for a differential back-to-school allowance, also calculated in relation to your income. Check with your Caf or MSA.

Scale of amounts for 2025

The amount paid to you depends on the age of your child on December 31, 2024.

Amounts have been revalued to 1er April 2025.

What steps should be taken to obtain the ARS?

You are a caf beneficiary

  • Your child is 6 to 15 years old at the start of the school year: the ARS is paid automatically without any steps to be taken.
  • Your child is under 6 years old and comes back to the CP: you will have to send the Caf a certificate of education.
  • Your child is between 16 and 18 years old: you must declare that he is still in school or learning from your “My Account” space on the Caf website or via the “My Account” application.

You are not yet a caf recipient

Create a personal space on the website of the Caf and then fill out the form "Children" available in the section "Help and procedures > My procedures".
