If you are a foreigner no European and come to France to do an internship in a company of the group that employs you, you must enter France with a long-stay visa ICT intern or ICT mobile trainee. This visa must be valid for the duration of the internship. The total duration of your stay in France is 1 year maximum. We're taking stock of the regulations.

The temporary residence card ICT intern (or ICT mobile trainee) allows you to stay in France to do an internship as part of a intra-group temporary transfer (Intra corporate transfer).

You are affected if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • You have a VLS-TS ICT intern (or an "ICT" residence permit issued by another member country of the European Union, if you are an ICT mobile trainee)
  • You come to France for do an internship at an institution or company of the group that employs you abroad
  • You have an internship agreement or an employment contract with the company that employs you abroad
  • You have a seniority of at least 6 months in the group that employs you.

If you are an ICT mobile trainee and your mobility is less than 90 days, there will be no issuance of a residence permit in France. Indeed, in this case, you keep the residence permit that was issued to you by the member country of the European Union (EU) who welcomed you under the status of "ICT intern".

Your family members can also reside in France with the residence permit issued by the EU host country.

FYI

Other rules apply if you are Algerian. If you are a European, you do not need a residence permit.

You must submit your card application within 2 months before the end of validity of your VLS-TS to the prefecture (or sub-prefecture) of your home. Find out more on the prefecture's website.

If you submit your application after the deadline, except in cases of force majeure or presentation of a valid visa, you will have to pay, in addition to the cost of the card, a visa fee for regularization of €180.
