Disability: specialized reception house (Mas)
Verified 01 April 2026 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
You are severely dependent and need a third person to carry out the acts of everyday life (feed you, dress you...)? You can be accommodated in a specialized reception house (Mas). La Mas offers permanent accommodation, medical care and social activities. La Mas welcomes more dependent people than in a nursing home (Fam). We present you the information to know.
The specialized care home (Mas) offers permanent accommodation to a severely dependent disabled adult who cannot perform the acts of daily life (eating, dressing...).
This type of accommodation offers single rooms. There are generally 10 of them per Mas.
Les Mas offers activities for residents such as manual activities, relaxation, music.
FYI
In principle, the Mas welcomes people a little more dependent than the population hosted in nursing home (Fam)However, in practice, audiences are more or less the same.
To be welcomed in Mas, you must need a third person to perform the daily acts (dress, move...) and need medical supervision and constant care.
In addition, you must be of French nationality or a national of the European Economic Area (EEA) (or have a valid residence permit if you are a foreign national).
You must make your request for reception at the departmental house of disabled people (MDPH) of your department.
The request can be made online through an online service, if the MDPH of your residence offers it:
MDPH (AAH, PCH, admission to Ésat, accommodation...) and renewal
You can also make your request by post through a form:
Application or renewal of disability benefits (AAH, PCH, CMI, accommodation...)
You must reach supporting documents mentioned during your online application or on the form.
The documents must be sent (or scanned if you apply online) to the MDPH of your place of residence.
The MDPH's Commission on the Rights and Autonomy of Persons with Disabilities (CDAPH) is examining the application.
His response comes in a delay of 4 months.
The absence of response of CDAPH for more than 4 months is implied rejection decision.
It is only once you have obtained a favorable response from the CDAPH that you can directly apply for admission to a Mas. The list of Mas is available from your town hall.
Yes, the decision of the CDAPH to refuse may be the subject of a compulsory prior administrative appeal (Rapo) with the MDPH. This remedy must be exercised before any appeal to the court.
The RAPO must be filed within 2 months from the receipt of the contested decision. This decision must be attached to your appeal.
The absence of a response from the CDAPH for more than 2 months constitutes an implicit rejection decision.
Based on that decision, explicit or implicit, you have 2 months to appeal to the court of law the location of your residence.
You must participate in the accommodation costs, unless you collect the complementary health solidarity (your expenses are then covered by the Health Insurance).
Nevertheless, a minimum of income is left at your disposal. This amount must be at least €312.48 per month.
