Accompanied hunting: how to hunt before obtaining your license?

Accompanied hunting allows a person over 15 years of age to hunt in the presence and under the responsibility of an accompanying person. We present you the information to know (conditions to be filled in, training to follow, form to be filled in...).

You must meet the following 3 conditions:

  • Be aged over 15 years
  • Follow a basic practical training provided by a Departmental Federation of Hunters (FDC). You can follow her from 14 and a half.
  • Have authorization to hunt accompanied.

The accompanying hunter must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a hunting license for 5 years or more
  • Not to have been deprived of the right to obtain or hold such a license by court order

Participation in basic practical training shall be attested by the issue of a certificate of training.

This certificate is valid for 1 year from the time of its delivery.

Basic practical training consists of 3 parts:

1. Evolution on a simulated hunting route with blank firing

You must cross a fence and a ditch, gun in hand, respecting the rules of safety.

You must shoot or refrain from shooting when leaving 6 trays of clay randomly propelled either on a path presenting no danger, or towards a car, a hedge, a house, a road, human silhouettes symbolized by mannequins.

2. Positioning on a large game beating line

You must perform a rifle handling exercise that includes loading and unloading the weapon.

3. Positioning alongside a hunting partner

You must know how to position yourself with an accompanying person during the evolution on the simulated hunting route and on the batting line while respecting the safety rules.

This certificate is valid for ten years.

The training on hunting safety specific to accompanying persons consists of 3 parts:

  • The accompanying person must attend the first 2 exercises of the basic practical training followed by the applicant for authorization to hunt (progress on a simulated hunting route with blank firing and positioning on a line of beating with large game).
  • The accompanying person must participate as an accompanying person on 3e practical elementary training exercise followed by the applicant for authorization to hunt (positioning alongside a hunting partner).
    On this 3e exercise, the role of the person accompanied may be performed by the candidate for the authorization to hunt or by a trainer from the departmental or interdepartmental hunters’ federation.

Deadline to apply

You must submit your request for permission to hunt accompanied at the latest within 12 months from the date of completion of the basic practical training.

Application file

The application file shall contain the following documents:

  • Form request for authorization to hunt accompanied, completed and signed
  • Copy of a identity document
  • Attestation participation in basic practical training.

The form shall contain the following declarations and attestations:

  • Declaration on Honor certifying that you have never been deprived of the right to obtain or hold a hunting permit by court order (if you are a minor, the declaration on honor is signed by your legal representative)
  • Declaration on the honor of each person responsible for accompanying certifying that they have had a hunting license for more than 5 years, that they have never been deprived by court order of the right to obtain or hold a hunting license and that they have insurance covering their civil liability for this support
  • Certificate of Participation in Hunting Safety Training of each of the persons responsible for the support
  • Authorization of your legal representative if you are a minor or adult under guardianship.

The application form should be sent to the Departmental Hunters Federation (FDC) where you have taken the training basic practice.

However, a financial contribution may be requested for basic practical training and specific hunting safety training to accompanying persons.

The accompanied hunting authorization is issued for a period of one year.

The authorization shall not be renewable and may be issued only once per person.

The authorized person (accompanied hunter) and the accompanying hunter may have a maximum one gun for two on the hunting ground.

This weapon can be a rifle, a rifle or a bow.

In the case of a bow, the escort must provide evidence of participation in special training in bow hunting.

Warning  

If you have under 16 yearsNo, you can't have a gun. You can only use the hunter's weapon that comes with you.

Hunting without holding a hunting license shall be punished by a fine of up to €1,500.

Hunting without having with you the authorization to hunt shall be punished by a fine of up to €38.
