Municipal elections 2026: register to vote in your new municipality

If you have moved and wish to vote in your new municipality during the municipal elections 2026, you must register before 6 February 2026 (or February 4, 2026 online), except derogatory cases.

If you can't register on time, but you are still registered on the electoral roll of your former municipality, you can vote on it by making one proxy before election day or by visiting your polling station on election day.

Where do I need to register to vote after moving? The approach varies depending on whether you have stayed in France, gone to live abroad or returned to live in France. We explain.

Two situations are possible:

  • If you have stayed in the same municipality, you must declare your new address to the town hall.
  • If you have moved to another municipality, you must register on the electoral list of your new municipality.
