Student: scholarship on social criteria

You are a student (or going to be a student) and meet material difficulties to pursue higher education? You can request a higher education scholarship on social criteria (BCS). Be aware that the scholarship supplements the family's help and does not replace the maintenance obligation at the expense of the parents. We present you the information to know.
There is several conditions related to education, age, qualifications, nationality and resources.
Studies
You must complete all of the following conditions :
- You are enrolled in initial training in France or in another country of the European Union
- The institution is a public or private educational institution entitled to receive fellows
- You're in graduate school full-time.
Warning
If you are unable to benefit from the scholarship, you may, under certain conditions, claim to annual emergency aid.
Age
You must have under 28 during your 1re scholarship application (at 1er September of the year of studies).
From the age of 28, you must continue your studies to continue receiving the scholarship.
This age limit can be postponed if you are in any of the following conditions:

Volunteering in the Armed Forces
You perform a service of volunteering in the armies : the age limit of 28 years has been extended by 1 year.
Civic Service
You perform civic service: the age limit of 28 years is extended until the end of civic service.
Student parent of child
The age limit is lowered by 1 year per child raised.
Student with a disability
If you are recognized as disabled by the CDAPH: titleContentHowever, there is no age requirement.
Diplomas
You must have a French baccalaureate (or a title/diploma admitted in equivalence or exemption for enrollment in 1re year of higher education).
Nationality
Additional conditions are required if you are not French:

European student
If you are a citizen of a the European Economic Area or if you are swiss or andorran, you must answer to one of the following conditions :
- Have held a job in France, full-time or part-time, as an employee or not
- Justify that one of your parents received income in France.
Student foreigner (other country)
You must have the 3 conditions following:
- Have a residence permit
- Be domiciled in France for at least 2 years
- Certify a tax home in France for at least 2 years.
Refugee or under protection (Ofpra)
You must have refugee status recognized by theOfpra: titleContent or benefit from the subsidiary protection granted by Ofpra.
Resources
To qualify for the scholarship, your income must not exceed a certain ceiling.
For the 2026-2027 academic year, the revenues withheld are those received in 2024 (2025 tax notice) by the family or legal guardian.
The revenue taken into account is shown on the line overall gross income the tax or non-tax notice.

If you are married, past, if you have a child for tax purposes, only your resources (or those of the tax household to which you are attached) can be withheld.
In exceptional cases, 2025 (or even 2026) revenues can be taken into account.
Special provisions shall be laid down in the following situations:
- Single parent
- Separation, divorce, remarriage or common-law relationship of parents
- Parent living or working abroad
- Foreigner students.
You can prepare the necessary documents for your student social record (FSD) before completing it.

You must do this regardless of your nationality.
Submission of the application
You must create your student social record (DSE) on the internet to apply for a scholarship.
For the 2026-2027 academic year, you must enter your application between 1er March and May 31, 2026.

In case of significant and lasting change your situation (marriage, divorce) or that of your family (divorce, death, unemployment, retirement, illness), your file can be studied even outside these deadlines. Then contact the EHR department of the academy you depend on.
Validation of the request
At the end of the entry of your EHR, you will receive an email confirming the submission of your application.
If your file is incomplete, an email is also sent to you. You will then have to deposit the missing documents by logging into your account.

Conditional notification decision to award the grant
You will receive, by email, a conditional notification of award or rejection of scholarship, at the latest in July.
The final award or rejection decision will be notified only after you enroll at the university.
To do this, send the Crous the proof of your registration in a higher education institution.
Final decision on the award of the scholarship
The final award decision must include the reasons if it is less favorable than the conditional award.
Refusals to award, withdrawals or reductions of grants must also be justified.
These decisions must indicate the remedies and time limits for appeal (administrative and litigation).
Please note
If your situation changes significantly and sustainably, the file can be reviewed. Then contact your Crous.
Remedies
To challenge the decision of the Crous, send a ex gratia to the rector of the academy.
If you have not obtained satisfaction, file a hierarchical appeal with the Minister of Higher Education, mandatory through the rector of the academy.
You can also file a complaint with the administrative court of your academy within 2 months of the initial notification of refusal.
Who shall I contact
The scholarship on social criteria includes 8 stock exchange steps (from 0 bis to 7), each corresponds to an annual amount of scholarship.
The scholarship is paid to the student in 10 monthly installments, unless you enjoy during the summer holidays.

FYI
If you follow your studies in overseas, the annual amounts indicated shall be increased by €300.

The scholarship is paid in 10 monthly payments and may be conditionally paid during the summer holidays.
You can receive the scholarship on social criteria during 7 years. Its maintenance depends on progress in studies, attendance at classes and attendance at exams.
