The new aid measure for the purchase or rental of a second-hand electric car is introduced under the energy saving certificates – EEC premiums, a scheme financed by energy and fuel suppliers and their partners. It can be requested since the 1er September 2026.

What are the eligibility conditions for the aid?

To qualify for the aid, the car you buy or rent must meet several criteria, including:

  • be 100% electric (hybrid vehicles are therefore excluded from the scheme);
  • have been registered for the first time in France, and that such registration was made between 1er January 2017 and December 31, 2023 (a vehicle initially registered in another country and then imported into France is therefore not eligible);
  • be leased or purchased from a licensed automotive professional;
  • be equipped with a battery that is still in good condition (at least 80 % of its initial capacity, or failing that, the residual range of the car must be at least 200 km or at least 80 % of the range established at the time of approval of the vehicle).

In addition, in order to benefit from the assistance, you must commit to keep the vehicle for at least 3 years; or if it is a rental, the duration of the contract must be at least 3 years (excluding tacit renewal).

Please note

No income requirement is required to qualify for this aid.

What is the amount of aid?

The amount of the aid depends in particular on the operator (an energy supplier or its partner) from whom you apply for this energy saving certificate premium.

An increase in assistance is planned for home care professionals, and personal services (assistance for the elderly, disabled, etc.). The Government clarifies that, in this case, the aid is approximately €2,000 per vehicle. This surcharge is applied provided that the car purchased or rented meets additional eligibility criteria; the vehicle must, in addition to the other requirements:

  • cost a maximum of €25,000 TTC (including battery);
  • have a mass in running order (total weight of the vehicle ready to roll) of less than 1 800 kg.

This increase is temporary; it applies only to purchase or lease transactions initiated before 1er January 2027 (e.g. date of acceptance of quotation or order or rental agreement), and finalized before 1er July 2027 (e.g. car delivery date).

How do I ask for help?

It is recommended to compare the different offers available to find the most advantageous one; you can then get closer to a car dealer or an agreed rental company.

The terms of payment of the aid (bank transfer, check, etc.) depend on the operator you choose.

Please note

You can benefit from this support device for up to 5 used electric cars.
