Tougher penalties for non-compliance with collection rules

Since June 5, 2026, certain offenses have been 2e to 3e class of contravention.

You must now pay:

  • €45: reduced flat-rate fine (reduced amount if you pay within 10 days of the penalty);
  • €68: flat-rate fine (« normal » amount if you pay within the prescribed time, usually 45 days);
  • €180: increased flat-rate fine (higher amount if you do not pay on time);
  • Up to €450 in case of judgment (maximum amount a judge can decide if you dispute or do not pay).

The decree provides in particular for sanctions in the event of:

  • waste disposal facility outside the authorized days and times ;
  • of non-compliance with sorting instructions ;
  • of use of a unsuitable container ;
  • waste disposal facility at the feet of containers or intended locations.

Please note

If you leave a container or a garbage bin permanently on the street, you risk a fine of €750 maximum.

Abandonment of waste in natural spaces

In order to strengthen environmental protection, penalties are increased when infringements are committed in natural areas with a special protection status, such as national parks, nature reserves or classified sites.

In these cases, the offenses may be a contravention of 4e class, or:

  • €135 (flat-rate fine);
  • up to € 750 in case of judgment.

They concern in particular the depositing, abandoning or throwing away of waste in these spaces.

Please note

The abandonment of waste in the public space can be punished with a fine of up to €1,500 (contravention of 5e class), or even more in case of recidivism.
