How to measure your exposure to electromagnetic waves?

Publié le 13 avril 2026 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Electromagnetic waves are present in many everyday equipment (TV antennas, mobile phones, household appliances, Wifi, etc.). If you want to know your level of exposure, a national and free device is available to you.

Anyone can request a measurement of their exposure to electromagnetic waves. The application may concern a place of residence (house, apartment) or a public space (park, school, workplace, etc.).

Why measure your exposure to waves?

The French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) offers anyone the opportunity to have their exposure measured free of charge. This measure allows:

  • know the overall level of exposure and verify compliance with regulatory thresholds;
  • identify the level of exposure per device or service (Wi-Fi, TV, radio, mobile phone, etc.);
  • obtain detailed exposure by frequency band.

How to make a measurement request?

The process is simple and completely free:

  • fill out an online form on the website measurements.anfr.fr ;
  • have the form signed by an authorized body (local authorities, regional health agencies, approved associations);
  • forward your request to the ANFR, which will commission an accredited and independent laboratory to carry out the measurement.

You will then receive a measurement report indicating the compliance of the measured place with the regulations. A summary sheet is sent to the town hall, the authorized body, as well as to the occupant or owner of the place.

FYI

The platform Cartoradio allows you to consult the results of the measurements already carried out by the ANFR. Simply enter your address to access the available data.
