Are you experiencing momentary difficulties paying your rent? Or are you in a difficult financial situation that persists? In the 2 cases, the National Agency for Housing Information (Anil) recommends to talk to your landlord without waiting for an accumulation of debt.

Anil offers a toll-free number for both tenants in financial difficulties and landlords, to help them prevent and cope with unpaid rent:

SOS unpaid rent : 0805 16 00 75 (Monday to Friday, free call)

Counselors inform you free of charge about the rights, the steps to be taken, the deadlines, the possible remedies and the aid available. You can also make an appointment with the Departmental Housing Information Agency (Adil) closest to you or with the social services of your municipality (town hall or communal center for social action - CCAS).

For more information, you can consult the Public Service :

FYI

Currently, an unpaid amount is established when the accumulated debt of a tenant reaches twice the amount of the rent (including charges), after deduction of the personal housing assistance received (APL, ALF or ALS). The rules will change from 1er January 2027 (according to a decree of 12 february 2026). An unpaid amount will be established:

  • as soon as the accumulated debt exceeds €450 (rent and charges);
  • or as soon as a tenant has accumulated 3 months of default (even if the total amount is less than 450 €).
