The cost of hospitalization and emergency room visits increased on March 1

When you are hospitalized, you are charged a hospital fee. Its amount increased on 1er mars, as well as the emergency patient package. Public Service explain.

The hospital package represents your financial contribution to the costs of accommodation and maintenance related to your hospitalization. It is due for each day of hospitalization, including the day of discharge.

This package is not reimbursed by the Health Insurance. It can be taken care of by your complementary health, in part or in full, if the contract you have entered into so provides.

Since 1er in march, the hospital fee amounts to:

  • 23 € per day in hospital or clinic, compared to €20 previously.
  • 17 € per day in the psychiatric service of a health facility, compared to €15 previously.

Please note

You do not have to pay the hospital fee in certain situations, including if:

  • you are hospitalized during the last 4 months of your pregnancy, for delivery or for 12 days after delivery;
  • your baby is hospitalized within 30 days of birth;
  • your hospitalization is due to an occupational disease or illness;
  • you benefit from complementary health solidarity or state medical aid.

What is the new amount of the Emergency Patient Package?

When you go to the emergency department without being hospitalized, you must pay an emergency patient package (EPF). It corresponds to your participation in the costs related to your visit to the emergency room.

UPF is for people who go to the emergency room for unscheduled care.

Since 1er in march, the emergency patient package amounts to €23, compared to €19.61 previously.

You are informed of the cost of your visit when you leave the emergency room.

The emergency patient package is to be paid upon receipt of the invoice. If the health facility allows it and offers it, you can pay this amount directly when you go to the emergency room.

If you have a complementary health, it fully reimburses the package patient emergencies.

Please note

In some cases, the amount of the emergency patient package is reduced to €9.96. This is particularly the case for people with long-term conditions.
