A new version of the maternity booklet from 1 March

A maternity booklet is transmitted free of charge to all pregnant women after their 1er prenatal examination. It includes information and advice for the mother-to-be and those around her. From 1er In March, this document evolves, taking into account the latest recommendations of the High Council for Public Health.

The purpose of the maternity booklet is to provide pregnant women with clear information on the course of their pregnancy. This document is issued to them by their departmental council. A decree of 19 December 2025 specifies that the maternity booklet includes:

  • of useful information in prevention and health promotion, from pregnancy to postpartum with the aim of improving the health of women and newborns, in accordance with current scientific recommendations and knowledge;
  • of medical elements related to perinatal follow-up in addition to the obstetric medical record.

The new version of the maternity booklet, taking into account these details, will be available from 1er March.

In the new model of the document, information is added on the risk of postpartum depression. The various signs of this depression are indicated, among which:

  • feeling sad, depressed, for no apparent reason;
  • have memory loss;
  • have unrealistic anxieties about your baby.

It then explains, among other things, that this depression is treatable, and that you must talk to your partner, a loved one and/or a health professional.

Please note

The new model of the maternity notebook is divided into 5 main parts:

  • information and advice (i discover my pregnancy; living my pregnancy well; giving birth and staying at the maternity; returning home and the postpartum period)
  • medical elements;
  • resources for health professionals;
  • useful websites;
  • resources on my territory.

In the new version of the maternity booklet, information is also added on:

  • vaccinations during pregnancy;
  • screening for the risk of trisomy 21;
  • screening for gestational diabetes (if there are risk factors).

The maternity booklet is also used to facilitate coordination between the various health professionals who accompany the pregnant woman.

Reminder

Pregnant women should bring their maternity booklet to each medical consultation, until the end of the postpartum period (this period lasts 6 to 8 weeks after delivery).
