Work stoppage: a new video conferencing control device

When you are on sick leave, Health Insurance can take the initiative of a medical check to verify that your leave is justified. This examination is carried out by a medical officer of the organization. As of December 2025, this medical check-up can be carried out remotely, via videoconference.

The medical remote control system, set up by the Health Insurance, was tested for 3 months in 3 “pilot” regions: Normandy, Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Occitanie.

As of December, it is generalized throughout France.

This device may be used in the context of:

  • a work stoppage;
  • an accident at work;
  • an occupational disease;
  • or certain disability claims.

It's a secure videoconference exchange between you and a medical consultant of the Health Insurance ; the latter is responsible for ensuring that your sick leave is justified.

Please note

Until then, these medical interviews were conducted exclusively face-to-face during an appointment.

The Health Insurance indicates that the objectives of the medical remote control system are in particular to:

  • streamline exchanges between insured persons and medical consultants;
  • reduce travel for policyholders.

The organization states that the guarantees, requirements and objectives remain the same, whether the medical exchange is carried out via videoconference or face-to-face.

How does medical remote control work?

The medical remote control procedure takes place in 3 steps:

  1. Two days before the remote control, at the latest, a message is sent to your personal email address, with the date and time of the appointment and the login details. An SMS is also sent to you (the email address and phone number used are taken from the information in your email account).
  2. The day before, you will receive an email and text message to remind you of the date and time of the appointment.
  3. On the day of remote control, you must connect to the videoconference, from the device of your choice (smartphone, tablet or computer), in order to discuss your pathology with the consulting doctor.

If you are unable to attend the scheduled appointment via video conference, or if you do not wish to use this method, an in-person appointment is offered.

Reminder

If the medical officer of the Health Insurance decides that your work stoppage is unjustified, you will be informed immediately; your attending physician will also be informed.

If you have received compensation to which you were not or no longer entitled, the Health Insurance may ask you to reimburse the amounts wrongly received.
