What is the mobile coverage in your department?

Every quarter, Arcep (the French regulator for electronic communications, postal services and press distribution) publishes maps showing the level of mobile coverage in each department. The latest update incorporates 5G coverage data. Public Service tells you how to use these cards.

Want to know which operator offers the best coverage in your department? Which one deploys 5G in your home? The departmental maps of Arcep draw up an inventory, updated every quarter, of mobile coverage in metropolitan France and the French overseas territories.

Arcep's maps complement the site My Mobile Network which allows the performance of operators to be compared.

Please note

Arcep's statistics take into account the best level of mobile coverage in your department (“very good mobile coverage”). It corresponds to the areas where you need to be able to exchange mobile data outside and, in most cases, inside buildings.

How to consult the maps?

Go to tab Maps and data from the Arcep website to access the mobile coverage status of your department.

You have to choose the period and then the department concerned, then the tool automatically generates the map corresponding to your search.

It gives you the following information:

  • Indoor mobile internet coverage and evolution by operator.
  • Mobile coverage in voice and SMS indoors and evolution by operator.
  • Deployment of commercially open 5G sites.
  • Mapping of commercially open 5G sites.
  • Mobile coverage in voice and SMS in car.

Arcep states that the actual level of radio coverage (quality of the mobile signal) varies over time due to many factors: the season, weather conditions, the number of simultaneous users and their mobility, the appearance of an obstacle in the environment.

The coverage inside buildings can also be altered depending on the building itself (building materials, the presence of windows, location of the phone...). The availability of the service may also be affected by the type and sensitivity of the terminal used. In this respect, the maps are simulated for an average terminal sensitivity.
