Which mobile operator provides the best network quality near you?

Would you like to get information about the mobile Internet coverage of your holiday destination, or to balance the performance of the different networks near you before changing operator? The platform “My mobile network” allows you to compare the results of the main operators in terms of quality of services (calls and SMS / mobile Internet), in a living place or in transport. A new version was released in July.

With the “My mobile network” map site, Arcep (Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes) has been enabling you to view 2 types of information concerning the 4 main mobile operators (Bouygues, Free, Orange, SFR) since 2017:

  • theoretical coverage of operators in a given territory (this information is the result of a numerical simulation based on various parameters; it is provided by mobile operators, and its reliability is then verified by Arcep);
  • the quality of the experienced service, with an annual measurement campaign organized by Arcep in real conditions and for a variety of uses (call quality, web browsing, video streaming, etc.).

Reminder

On the platform My mobile network, for example, you can fill in a address, one means of transport collective (a TGV, RER, metro line, etc.) or a road axis (A6 Paris-Lyon, A84 Caen-Rennes, route nationale 145, etc.).

Then, the data and maps produced allow you to know, for the place or axis of transport in question, the results of tests concerning the loading speed of a web page, the quality of the communication during a call, the time it takes to receive an SMS or the quality of playback of a video viewed in streaming, and this for each of the 4 operators.

What's new on My mobile network?

A new version of My Mobile Network was released on July 8, 2025. Four levels of coverage are now used to characterize the mobile Internet network operators:

  • “no cover”, which means that the connection to the Internet via the mobile network (i.e. without Wi-Fi) is unlikely to be inside or outside buildings;
  • ‘limited coverage’, which means that the connection to the Internet via the mobile network is possible outside buildings in most cases, but probably not inside buildings;
  • “good coverage”, which means that the connection to the Internet via the mobile network is possible outside buildings in most cases and, in some cases, inside buildings;
  • “very good coverage”, which means that the connection to the Internet via the mobile network is possible outside buildings and, in most cases, inside buildings.

Until then, the “mobile Internet” coverage of a location was presented in a binary way: the geographical area appeared either as covered by the mobile network of the selected operator, or as a white area. On the other hand, for the “calls and SMS” services, these 4 levels of coverage were already used.

In addition, on the My Mobile Network platform you can now also:

  • download the proposed maps in PNG format;
  • use a satellite background to better locate yourself on maps;
  • obtain information on the position of antennas that are unavailable due to a fault or maintenance operation (this information is updated daily).

Reminder

On My Mobile Network, you can also view the location of the geographical areas that must be covered within 24 months by operators under the targeted coverage scheme. This provision aims to ensure high-quality mobile coverage (calls, SMS and mobile Internet access) in uncovered or poorly covered geographical areas.

You can notify Arcep of a network problem or a reduction in the quality of service of an operator thanks to the device “I am alerting Arcep”.
