Vaccination schedule: what changes for 2026?

The Ministry of Health has published the 2026 vaccination schedule. Public Service presents the main novelties.

The vaccination schedule sets the vaccinations applicable to people residing in France according to their age. It issues, after consulting the French National Health Authority (HAS), general and specific recommendations specific to specific situations (increased risks of complications, exposure or transmission) or occupational exposures.

The immunization schedule 2026 has just been made public by the Ministry of Health. It is likely to be updated according to the news related to vaccination.

Main news of the 2026 immunization calendar

Vaccination against seasonal influenza

Among the persons aged 65 years and overHowever, it is now recommended that priority be given to the use of boosted or adjuvanted vaccines. Standard-dose vaccines remain possible.

Among the children aged 6 to 23 months at risk of severe influenzaHowever, influenza vaccination is possible.

Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) infections

Vaccine catch-up is expanded:

  • to young women and young men not having been vaccinated in adolescence;
  • up to 26 years of age.
Vaccination against pneumococcal infections

Vaccination is now recommended for all persons aged 65 years and over, in a single-dose regimen.

For the adults at risk from 18 years of ageHowever, vaccination is also based on a single-dose regimen.

Covid‑19 vaccination

A vaccine not based on messenger RNA technology may be used in patients with people aged 12 years and older at risk of severe illness.

Among the pregnant womenHowever, messenger RNA vaccines remain to be favored.

Vaccine recommendations for people living with HIV

The 2026 calendar introduces specific vaccine recommendations for people living with HIV, concerning:

  • the pregnant women ;
  • the infants ;
  • the adults.
Vaccination against invasive meningococcal infections

For all children born after 1er January 2023, shall become mandatory:

  • vaccination against meningococci of ACWY groups;
  • vaccination against meningococcal group B.

One catch-up vaccination is provided for:

  • for young children aged 2 to 4 years,
  • including those who have already received vaccination against meningococcal group C.

For children born from 1er January 2023, this catch-up is not mandatory only if they have not been vaccinated according to schedule before the age of 2 years.

Regulatory innovations

The Social Security Financing Act 2026 introduces a measles immunization obligation for professionals and students in the health and medico-social sectors, as well as for early childhood professionals, upon entering training or upon taking up their duties.

The list of professionals concerned, as well as the implementation modalities, will be specified later by regulation.

Recall of Mandatory Vaccines

The electronic vaccination record, included in the digital space “ My health space ”, provides an update on the vaccinations carried out and to know the next expected deadlines according to age.

Reminder

In order to simplify the vaccination journey of users and improve vaccination coverage, nurses, pharmacists and midwives can prescribe vaccines and vaccinate people 11 years of age and older.
