Can a student do an internship in the public service?

You can be welcomed on an internship by an administration if you are a student.

You can be a foreigners or a French student in France.

The internship is a temporary situation in a professional environment that allows you to acquire professional skills and implement the achievements of your training.

The administration cannot accept you as an intern for the following reasons:

• Hold a permanent job
• Replace an absent public official
• Coping with a temporary increase in activity
• Hold a seasonal job.

Your host administration appoints a tutor to welcome you and accompany you during your internship.

An internship gives rise to the establishment of an agreement between you (or legal representative), your host administration and your educational institution.

The traineeship agreement shall include the following mandatory particulars:

• Full title and hourly volume per year or semester of your course or training
• Name of the teacher in your educational institution and name of your tutor in the host administration
• Skills to be acquired or developed during the internship period
• Activities entrusted to you according to the training objectives and skills to be acquired
• Start and end dates of your internship and total planned duration
• Weekly effective attendance period to which you are subject in the host administration and possible attendance at night, on Sundays or on public holidays
• Conditions under which the teacher and your tutor provide your supervision and follow-up
• Amount of bonus paid to you
• Social protection plan from which you benefit, and if necessary, mention of your obligation to prove insurance covering your civil liability
• Conditions under which you are authorized to take time off work, in particular as part of obligations certified by your educational institution and leave and leave of absence
• Conditions of suspension and termination of the internship agreement and conditions of validation of your internship in case of interruption
• List of benefits offered by the host administration (access to catering or restaurant vouchers, coverage of transport and accommodation costs, etc.)
• Clauses of the Host Administration applicable to you
• Conditions for issuing your probationary certificate.

The probationary agreement may be subject to amendments, in particular in the event of postponement or suspension of the probationary period.

The duration of the internship(s) that you can do in the same host organization may not exceed 6 months maximum per year of teaching.

Each period of at least 7 hours of presence, consecutive or not, is equivalent to 1 day of internship.

Each period of at least 22 days of presence, consecutive or not, is equivalent to 1 month of internship.

You must have a gratification if the duration of your internship is more than 2 consecutive months, or, in the same academic year, 2 consecutive months or not.

This gratuity is due to you from 1^er day of 1^er month of internship.

The amount of the bonus is equal to €4.50 per hour of attendance.

The gratuity is due to you for each hour of presence in the host administration.

If the duration of your internship is less than 2 months, the host administration may grant you a bonus, but this is not mandatory.

In addition, you benefit from the partial reimbursement of your transport costs home - place of internship under the same conditions as public officials.

You can also be reimbursed for your accommodation costs if the host administration grants you this.
