What is the period of professional immersion in the public service?

A period of professional immersion is a period during which you request to be placed temporarily with a other public employer than yours, to understand the reality of a profession, observe its practice and its professional environment.

The professional immersion period is intended to allow you to confirm a career development project and make an informed choice of mobility.

The host public employer may be an administration or a public institution of the State of your choice. It can also be a community or a territorial public institution or a public hospital institution or any other public body.

The immersion period aims, when you are looking for mobility or professional retraining, to put you in the professional situation you plan to join.

The duration of a period of professional immersion may be 2 to 10 working days, consecutive or not.

The cumulative duration of several periods of immersion may not exceed 20 days over 3 years.

The period of professional immersion is equivalent to actual service time.

Who can benefit from a period of professional immersion?

Each public servant (civil servant or contract staff) may benefit from a period of professional immersion.

How do I apply for a professional immersion period?

The immersion period gives rise to a tripartite convention between you, your employer administration and the host organization.

This agreement defines the functions observed, the place, the duration and the date of the immersion period (or the dates in case of a split of the period).

During the immersion period, you are considered to be on a mission.

Your remuneration rest unchanged during the immersion period.

If necessary, you can benefit from the care of your travel expenses like an agent on a mission.

If you are a worker with a disability the obligation of employment and if you have human or material aids to help you adapt your workstation, your employer administration ensures that you receive the necessary aids to ensure the smooth running of the immersion period. Such aid is defined in the Tripartite Convention.
