Child who died at birth: can family benefits be received?

Parents can perceive the birth bonus in any of the following situations:

  • Childbirth (or termination of pregnancy) occurs at a date after or equal to 1er day of the calendar month following 5e month of pregnancy (i.e. from 6e month of pregnancy), whether the child was born lifeless (stillborn) or alive and viable
  • Childbirth (or termination of pregnancy) occurs before this date for a child born alive and viable (having a birth certificate and a death certificate).

Depending on the case, you must provide the caisse with either a birth certificate or proof of pregnancy.

The birth bonus is paid on a means-tested basis.

Parents can also perceive the lump-sum allowance paid in the event of the death of a child.

It is awarded if the death occurs from the 20the week of pregnancy.

The flat-rate allowance shall be €2,319.32 or €1,159.68, depending on the income of the parents.

Please note

If you have a lifeless birth certificate, you must send it to the caisse.
