Kindergarten or elementary school: passing, repeating or jumping classes

Your child is in primary school (kindergarten or elementary) and you wonder about his orientation ? Upgrading, repeating or jumping classes: here is the information to know.

Kindergarten

The council of masters of the school takes stock of your child's progress in acquiring skills.

At the end of the school year, it shall decide on theorientation of your child.

The council of masters shall be composed of the following members:

  • Head teacher
  • Teachers of the school
  • Substitute Masters
  • Members of the network of specialized assistants working in the school.

It meets at least 1 time per quarter.

At the end of the school year, the Council of Masters mayone of the decisions of the following orientation:

  • Upgrading to higher class
  • Class jump if your child shows great facilities in his learning.

The repetition is impossible.

Please note

The council of masters can pronounce at most one jump class during your child's primary school education (kindergarten and elementary). Exceptionally, it may pronounce a 2nd jump class after the opinion of the inspector of National Education.

The Council of Masters sends you its decision of orientation.

At the end of the large section class (last year of kindergarten), the board communicates a summary of learning outcomes of your child. This summary mentions what he knows how to do, its highlights and possibly the needs to be taken into account to help him in the rest of his journey.

If you are in disagreement with the board's decision, you have 15 calendar days (from the receipt of the decision) for appeal.

To do this, you must submit an application written, through the school principal, before the departmental appeal committee.

This committee shall be chaired by the Dasen: titleContent. It includes inspectors responsible for the constituencies of 1er degree, principals, teachers of 1er degree and parents of students. It must also be composed of at least one school psychologist, a doctor of the National Education, a principal of college and a teacher of the 2nd teaching degree in college.

You can ask to be heard by this committee.

The board can decide whether your child should move to the next grade or jump to the next grade.

In case of disagreement with the decision of the appeal board, you can refer the Ombudsman for National Education.

Elementary

The council of masters of the school takes stock of your child's progress in acquiring skills.

At the end of the school year, it shall decide on theorientation of your child.

The council of masters shall be composed of the following members:

  • Head teacher
  • Teachers of the school
  • Substitute Masters
  • Members of the network of specialized assistants working in the school.

It meets at least 1 time per quarter.

At the end of the school year, the Council of Masters mayone of the decisions of the following orientation:

  • Upgrading to higher class
  • Class jump if the child is very easy to learn
  • Repetition.

Please note

The council of masters can pronounce at most one repetition or one jump class during your child's primary school education (kindergarten and elementary). Exceptionally, it can pronounce a 2nd grade repetition or jump after the opinion of the inspector of national education.

The repetition may be decided if the educational support did not allow to end the significant learning difficulties of your child.

A repetition must be accompanied by specific pedagogical measures for the student (for example, a personalized educational success program).

The Council of Masters sends you its decision of orientation.

At the end of the CM2 class, the Board shall decide on the whether or not your child is in college.
