Can we still benefit from the minimum old age?

Verified 01 January 2026 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

The minimum old-age pension is no longer allocated. It has been replaced by the Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly (Aspa) during 2006.

But you can still receive today the minimum old age, if it was allocated to you before the implementation of the Aspa, and you did not ask to change to the Aspa.

In this case, 2 situations are possible:

You live alone

You perceive the additional allocation, which complements:

  • your retirement pension
  • or the special old-age allowance (if you cannot claim any pension)
  • or other services (allowance for old employed persons, allowance for mothers, ...).

This to allow you to achieve an income of €1,043.59 per month (gross amount).

FYI

As for the Aspa, the amounts you received (additional allocation) must be paid after death. They are deducted from the amount of your estate, under certain conditions.

You're a married couple

Your couple receives the additional allocation, which complements:

  • a retirement pension
  • or the special old-age allowance (when the person cannot claim any pension)
  • or other services (allowance for old employed persons, allowance for mothers, ...).

This will allow your couple to achieve an income of €1,620.18 per month (gross amount).

The additional allowance may be paid:

  • to 1 person, if a single allowance is enough for your couple's resources to reach €1,620.18 per month
  • or to the 2 persons, if necessary

FYI

As for the Aspa, the sums received by the couple (additional allocation) must be paid after death. They are levied on the amount of the estate, under certain conditions.
