Can an employee who has stopped working take training?
Verified 26 November 2025 - Public Service / Directorate of Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
The payment of the daily allowance of Social Security does not prevent training.
Yes, during a work stoppage, an employee can undergo training.
But the employee must:
- Get first the written agreement of sound attending physician
- And then forward this agreement by post to its CPAM: titleContent, preferably by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt.
FYI
The employment contract of the employee is suspended during the periods during which the employee on leave from work receives training.
The duration of the training must not exceed the estimated duration of the work stoppage for the CPAM to give its agreement.
In the event of agreement, the CPAM transmits it to the employee and, possibly, to the employer and the occupational physician.
Warning
In case of non-compliance with the procedure, the employee is exposed to the interruption of the payment of his daily allowances.
The training courses that can be taken by the employee are as follows:
- Training actions (to achieve a professional objective)
- Competency assessment
- Actions to do Validate Experience Gains (VAE)
- Training actions by apprenticeship.
It is also possible to follow actions in which the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) participates. These are actions related to:
- To the board
- To evaluation
- To the information
- To the accompaniment.
Accompanying actions shall include in particular theframed trial.
This test allows the beneficiary, during the work stoppage, to test:
- His ability to return to his former position
- A post office layout
- A new position.
This trial also allows the employee to prepare for a professional retraining.
FYI
During his supervised trial, the status of employee is unchanged, he remains on sick leave.
